HDMI DVD Player problem

Yeah it would have to be something to do with the set-up process...or a faulty HDMI Cable/socket. Has he tried connecting something else with HDMI? Most new TVs have two HDMI inputs now.

Also, if he has it hooked up to a surround sound system it may be overiding the HDMIselection.

If there's an option in the DVD player setup menu for "HDMI AUDIO OUT", make sure it says 'yes'.

What brand DVD is it?
Just a Soniq, a cheap one. And we went through the settings first, no "HDMI Audio" option. Methinks his cheapness has caught up with him and he'll have to swap it for a decent one. The book said something about the player not having DTS encoder, could that be it?

If the DVD player doesn't have a DTS decoder then he'll only get Dolby Digital. I'm not sure why there's no audio, but then Soniq is a cheap arse brand.

The LG DVD player with HDMI out -- I forget the model number, but its all black -- shouldn't be anymore than $130, that WILL work.

If it does I'll grab one myself. I got myself a nice new HDTV (see the thread where I announce I'm getting a PS3) and DVD just looks so average without a HDMI cable. Then I saw it today and the picture looked outstanding. So I now have to upgrade. Will make my newly acquried Battlestar Galactica DVDs look great :p
