Yep. Spent a day there on a bus tour 2 years ago.

Not much to see. The castle is worth a look, but not much else. There are some nice pubs there. It is evidently a University town and I believe it goes off on a Friday night - not that I hung around to find out. The Heidelberg area itself was a fairly large conurbation, from memory.

Apparently Hitler had earmarked Heidelberg as the place where he would celebrate his planned victory in WWII. He wanted to have 2 cages, one containing Winston Churchill and the other Josef Stalin, present when he gave his victory speech.

those Contiki memories...ahhhh

Great Post Uncle Steve....I was there too in the (Northern) summer of '99. Those pics are sensational!!! Could remember each and every destination quite vividly. Got alot of video footage
and the traffic around the Arc de Triomph was amazing although your pic doesn't show the masses....we went around 6 times after 'Chrispy' got stuck in the inner lanes.

So much to say about those tours. Anyway, Heidelberg, as you describe it, is as I would. The bridge over the river and the long long path way through the village was my one day visit memory.

:) Happy Memories.....and a week after returning...saw North win the '99 Flag!!! What a RIPPER YEAR it was in '99 for me.
