This is going to sound pathetic, but...

I've lived in a new city for a number of years, and I only seem to be bale to meet people through work. Most of these people, although nice, don't seem to be likeminded, they have their own lives and aren't really interested in welcoming in someone new. I have joined sporting clubs and taken language classes, with the same reuslt. Now I have to move city again and I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to meet new people?

Well posting on BigFooty is one way....:)

Agree totally with that.

I have met some great people through here, and if you play your cards right, you can do the same for sure. Pretty much everyone here loves footy, so go after people who follow your club and who seem to have the same interests as you.

Everyone here is pretty nice, and as long as you don't post crap, you should be more than right.

And it's not pathetic mate. Hope it helps.

Don't worry, I have the same problem. I just moved from NSW to Meblourne, and it's hard making friends and meeting people outside of school (I just finished) and work. The best way to meet peple is probably make 1 good friend and then kick on with their mates too! Just an idea!

Hear what ya saying Gabriel

I've done this a couple of times and for a shy retiring guy like me, it literally takes years to carve out a social life for yourself in a new city.

I'm very lucky in that my wife is outgoing and very friendly and usually has no trouble making new friends, most of the time I just tag along with her !:p

But its true what others have said, the internet is, ironically, a great place to meet people !

Better than the traditional 'meet market' type places are actually.

So if you have real problems with these issues, jump online and start typing, it can lead to meeting up with some grteat people who you already know a little about anyway because you've already talked to them online and know what to expect.

cheers

Get a small dog (borrow one if neccesary).

Walk the dog three times a week in the local park.

You will meet an absolute heap of all kinds of people, and the smaller the dog the more people you'll meet.

Don't ask me why, there's no logic to this.

This might sound sick but if your desperate you could always visit the local cemetry. My best friend met her new husband from there and we always have a good laugh over it.
