How does the wishing well gift work in an Asian wedding?

Hi everyone

I am attending a wedding for a mate of mine who is Australian born Chinese (ABC as he likes to call it ) and his fiancé is of Vietnamese ancestry.

The invite said that there is a wishing well, from my understanding this where you give money upon arrival but can anyone tell me if there is anything else involved in the process?

I would have thought it would be like any other wishing well.

Buy a card.
Write a message in it.
Put cash, cheque or otherwise in it.
Put it in the well.

I’m old (45) and have grown up with entering a gift registry or buying a toaster. I’d never heard of a wishing well before this wedding

Oh cool.

Yeah I suppose with people getting married later in life and even living together for a while first they often have enough "stuff", so money to help pay for wedding / honeymoon / house deposit is the thing now.
