On so many occassions today it seemed we were happy to give up ground and go backward 30 to 50 metres to find Hurn inside our defensive 50 who would then pick the option to go forward. Haven't really ssen him be used so conspicuously in this way as part of our gameplan before.

Did anyone else notice this?

He got the decisions pretty well spot on too all of the time. I don't recall there being a turnover from his kicks in those situations.

He was awesome.

He fumbled once but aside from that his kicking was amazing and he was brilliant.

I think he is finally getting his game together.

I want to see Hurn sneak up foward and kick a few 50m + goals more often.

He hasnt done it since round 2 from memory.

Is becoming quite the sensational player in that he has set roles to play and he does them brilliantly. So much manliness from a guy named Shannon, I can only imagine how good he would be if his parents had called him Bruce.

Whats a quaterback? I dont follow american football.

Basically a player that sets up play.

In NFL the ball is snapped to a quarterback who takes a few steps back assesses the options and makes the play. Hurn was doing this for us today.

Watching him in the backline made me feel a lot better about Wirra moving forward as he was quiet brilliant with his disposal. Started to remind me of McKenna a little bit. He just needs to improve in the air and will be a star player.

Meh... the name Bruce isn't as macho as people think...Eugene on the other hand... now theres a name you could go to war with!

Having a stellar season.

I think we use him to switch play with his rakinl long kick.

Has no trouble getting the hard ball either and firing out a quick handball to a teammate.

Rising in my fav Eagles tbh.

agreed.

shows great promise and has strung together a lot of solid games this year.

would like to see more of him changing in the middle after a game like this.

don't think it's his full-time destiny though....

Has to play midfield/forward flank in close games.

Will break the game apart.

I am not sure why you think so.

In fact I think that he is already very damaging in his current role.

I am not against him changing through the midfield but I think he is best suited (at this point) to running off back flank and startin forward thrusts.

If Hurn doesn't get to play on a HFF, it's good to know that we have Ash Smith in hand waiting to come in and perhaps play the role on the HFF instead. I'd like Ash to get some game time as a HFF and become a weapon like Lecca.
Smith seems to be a Hurn clone but quicker.

And less composed..

And less able to play inside..

And not such an accurate kick..

And probably not as big a kick, though his kick is admittedly pretty impressive

And lazier..

And left footed.

Unless Hurn is left footed and I'm confused

Who gives a shite what foot he kicks on, that doesn't really make a difference.
Work rate can be over come with coaching. If it's an extreme case over time, he'll be traded or delisted.
The 2 have similar physical attributes as well as having howitzer kicks.

Composure will come with experience. He's still only a teenager.

I wouldn't want someone with the ability to kick long balls like he can being an in an under player. If he were to get time in the middle you'd want him to receive the ball from an in an under player so he can use that kick he has as often as possible.

I can't judge his kicking accuracy yet, I haven't seen enough of it.
