Hysteria

Just had lunch with a good friend of mine, who is a staunch tiger's supporter.
Although dissolusioned with his club,he still believes that let's not get the knives out just yet.Wait to see what transpires when the season proper starts.Say 4 -5 rounds in if the tigers are still losing then he'll go berserk.
what he said to me was that he seems to think there has been a dark cloud over the tigers for many years now.
The no skill mentality seems to creep into all players that join the tigers. As an example he said that, macmahon who played his first game with the tiges this week was fumbling, and not playing his normal game .
To him it seems every player that joins the tigers loses his skill set because the majority of the players play that way.
I think he is a bit harsh on his club ,i think the tigers will surprise come round one,in fact the supporters will see things alittle different when the tigers wallop carlton in the first home and away round.
Give the tiges a go and see what happens.

Sorry to carry on from my last post.my richmond friend also said that he wants to get rid of the entire and recruiting, coaching staff.
He made a point in saying to me that tigers could have now had roughhead, pavlich and frankiln to help richo on the forward line if they recruited correctly. If this true, wow, what a forward line who would stop that !

To get Roughead we'd have to have used pick 1 on him and not Deledio.

I know who i'd rather :thumbsu:

Excellent plan. Who the **** is gonna kick it to them?

This argument assumes that getting Pavlich would have made no difference to our performance in subsequent years so that we still ended up with the same draft picks in later years as we did without Pavlich.

How is this for hysteria.

The developing young kids line doesnt wash anymore.

The '04 draftees are only now beginning to get to the age where they should produce results.

We've seen Deledio play good to excellent football in a range of positions.

We've seen Tambling produce magic when his confidence is up and he has belief in himself. 16 quality possessions and 4 goals in a quarter against the WCE at the MCG, then 18 possessions, 10 marks and a great game against the WCE later in the year at Subiaco. Contested marks, blistering speed, ball winning in close while still well below the size he will be, carrying the footy 50m quickly (bourking opponents like they're standing still) and then kicking it 55m, kicking goals from outside 50m on his left foot. People that say Tambling can't play just don't know the first thing about identifying quality.

Polo walked into the AFL and held his own very early on. He's struggled with one of the most confidence depleting injuries (shoulder), played quite well even with it, and hopefully this year he's got it strong again and will fire. He's a tradesman in the Foley/King mould and will be a valuable player just like they are.

Patto is an honest goer, and when we recruited him we expected to have two of Simmonds, Knobel or Stafford still playing last season. He's done well so far and is a consistent workhorse who will be good value for us for a long time.

McGuane has had a number of injury setbacks, but he can play and should over the long term provide the sort of value that you expect from a number 36 selection.

Meyer, who knows. He was a gamble that may or may not pay off. At this stage it seems unlikely.

We also added Thursfield in the rookie draft, and I think nobody could say he was not a magnificent rookie selection, who in hindsight deserved to go much higher.

Bar Meyer, all the 2004 draftees have improved, developed well and showed more than enough for us to be very satisfied with their selection. Almost a third of a team in one draft.

What exactly are people complaining about? That we may have flopped with JON or a couple of picks since 2004? To make that complaint, you'd have to be utterly ignorant of draft history and the hit and miss nature of any draft pick by any club - whether first round or rookie selections.

Should we have picked up 25 excellent players in the last 4 drafts and expect the 2006-7 batch to already be good AFL footballers by now?

That's what some of you appear to be demanding, and it only reflects your own poor grasp on football reality; not mistakes from the club, coaching staff, or the vast majority of players drafted in the Wallace era.
