Rightio,

Got myself a new toy and it's a pretty nifty little thing, this iPhone, but at the end of the day it's a piece of hardware and it's only as good as the applications on it.

So what should I get?

Despite my protest against Words with Friends, I have yielded and added that to my list. Also added Mercury for web browsing (seems better than Safari) and of course, the trust alarm clock.

'Around me' - let's you find anything in your area. For example this morning I used it for Repco and Super cheap auto.....it's also good for locating the nearest Hungry Jacks.

'Pocket God' - everyone loves a game, and what better than sacrificing pygmies.

'Urbanspoon' - finds you places to eat, and also has user-reviews of anywhere you're thinking of going.

'Oz Weather' - This is my must have for the summer months. Updates for current tmep as well as a forecast, also has radar of rainfall.

'One tap movies' - finds the closest Cinema, and let's you know what is on, while also providing previews and reviews.

'Pano' - allows you to take a number of pics that stitch themselves together, giving you a panoramic picture.
For example.

Then there are the footy ones....
Superfooty - Herald sun app, works well, mostly.

Footy LIVE- was once a good app, but they stuffed it with adds. Perhaps they'll revert to a solid app for 2011.

There's plenty of other apps that I have but that's a good start.

Runkeeper - for fitness fanatics, using GPS to track KM travelled while jogging and you can see the map of the journey too

Metlink - essential for the train traveller

TuneIn Radio - Very reliable, with pretty much every radio station in the world that you'd ever want to listen to. I listen to SEN on it in the mornings through Wi-Fi connection at home.

Weatherzone - A weather forecast app that is linked to Bureau of Meteorology's live radars as well. Very handy especially if you travel around a bit.

Metlink app is awesome.

If you do your banking online, most banks have their own app for iPhone. I use the CommBank one, it's pretty good.

Flash :D

I almost pissed myself when i saw you posting on this thread.

LP - that is the midget having a go at me.

Henry, has a fake 'HTC' brick, that may be able to see pictures when a i phone does not have flash.

Speaking of bricks GH, have you ditched your iFoney yet?

Shazam

ShopShop is a good list app

ESPN scoreboard

I've grabbed footytips.com.au iPhone apps for AFL and A-League.

The new John Carmack game (of Doom fame) is a corker. Parking Lot is also fun.

Guitar tuner is useful (not for me though).

The Justin tv app cab useful too <wink emoticon>.

Oh yes, Skype is excellent too.

Talking Carl.... great fun
Quota... to keep track of your plan and data use.
Dragon..... Dictation recorded to convert to text, which you can send as a txt or email, great for long messages you can't be bothered typing.
Tom Tom... Navagtion
Txt'nDrive... Reads your emails out loud

As IBBNG - TuneInRadio is sensational, I use it to get Rome Radio....(which is probably of no use to anyone else, but point is, you can get just about any station in the world)...

I found flashcards deluxe (if you are studying) to be an excellent app to help with retaining info/learning etc...

The final one which my kids love (outside of MSN and all that crap) is trainyard express....keeps my son entertained in the car for ages!

Trainyard is fun. There's a trick that I worked out that makes it so much easier...

Yes, ok....you have my attention Grizz, considering mini-market is about 20 levels ahead of me and doing it easy!

You block tracks with the trains as they start to come out. Just leave a couple of lines open, which reduces the complexity somewhat.

VLC - no more converting videos into mp4s

USB Disk - as the name suggest it's useful

Hungry Shark - had a lot of fun with this game

Capcom Game - if it's still free good fun, old school arcade games like street fighter II and 1942

Cut Rope - as addictive as angry birds

Thanks Grizz! will test that out!

Coincidentally, Shepp, I was having a discussion with someone today about the development of an iPhone App. They were going on about how it would make it easy for people to view their website... That was the only functionality they proposed. Sometimes I think Iphone Apps are like the new 'website' i.e. everyone thinks they have to 'em to compete in the marketplace.

Why wouldn't you link here.... best Hawthorn site on the net!
