Delisted Jade Gresham

Gresham said he was eager to learn as much as he could in his first season. “Probably the first goal was to earn the respect of the boys and to train hard,” he said.

“But I’d love to be able to play a few NAB Challenge games if that opportunity comes about.”

“I was pretty nervous leading into the draft, not knowing where I was going to end up,” he said. “I thought there were a few clubs who seemed interested in me ... Carlton and North Melbourne were pretty keen, but it was a bit of a surprise because I didn’t think St Kilda was all that interested.”

“It has worked out really well for me. They’ve got a young, exciting list and I’ve settled in really well at the club.”

“It’s been grouse,” Gresham, last year’s Northern Knights captain, said of the experience. “We got up nice and early, had some brekkie and a few of us split up in different boats and went fishing and scuba diving.

“We caught heaps of fish — tuna, salmon, crayfish, everything that you could imagine. We get to cook it up now and have a really good meal.

Looking good, Gresh!

Moves brilliantly. Wait until he's big in about two years time. Will be scarily good.

Only the 11 touches and 3 tackles for the Gresh in his 'debut', but he set the 'net alight with his ability to navigate tight spaces and his poise and balance.

Gun in the making.

Yeah a lot easier from my bed :p

What are we expecting today Barrels, 20 touches and a couple goals? ;)
30-plus touches, 6 tackles, 3 goals, 3 votes, 1 opposition fatality.

9 touches, 4 tackles and a goal with his first kick for the little maestro. Was unlucky to be ignored in space on a few occasions too.

Will be a hell of a player going forward.

Encouraging debut.

The tale of two Knights

On a day where St Kilda celebrated one of its greats in Leigh Montagna’s 250th game, another small midfielder from the Northern Knights entered the AFL stage, with 2015 first-round draft pick Jade Gresham debuting on Adelaide Oval.

A prolific accumulator during his junior career, Gresham earned an opening round debut against Port Adelaide following an impressive maiden pre-season at Linen House Centre.

Last year’s Vic Metro MVP made an encouraging start at the elite level, kicking a goal with his first kick in league football, to go with nine disposals, four tackles, and a goal assist in limited game time.

An opening round debut against Port Adelaide inside South Australia’s sporting epicentre presented an intimidating challenge for not only a first-gamer but even the most seasoned player yesterday and the day before I wasn’t too nervous, but today it sort of hit me. But I thought I handled it alright. But Gresham revealed he managed his nerves as best he could in the lead up to Sunday’s game.

“Yesterday and the day before I wasn’t too nervous, but today it sort of hit me. But I thought I handled it alright.,” Gresham told saints.com.au following St Kilda’s first round loss on Easter Sunday.

“I don’t really let it (pre-game nerves) get to me. I sort of treated it like any other game, (that’s how) I took it like. I went out there and played my role, so it was alright.”

Gresham played in both of St Kilda’s NAB Challenge clashes, but despite that brief exposure to senior football against North Melbourne and Melbourne, he said the step up against the Power was ‘massive’.

“It was a massive step up - the intensity of the game,” Gresham said.

“It was a lot quicker, a lot faster, (and with) bigger bodies.”

The 18-year-old spent the duration of his debut playing at the feet of Nick Riewoldt and Josh Bruce, working alongside two young livewire forwards in Jack Billings and Jack Lonie.

Gresham said the direction and guidance provided by those two small forwards helped him navigate through a testing debut in South Australia.

“They’re really good in telling me where to go and just always keeping me on my toes so they’ve been really good,” he said.

13 disposals and 4 tackles in a bad loss to the Doggies.

Getting to the right spots, but making some bad 'first year' errors - which its to be expected TBF - which ruin the numbers a bit.

Might benefit from a few weeks at Sandringham, but the talent is there.
