I have Aish ahead of Greenwood and Wells is a Worry to be getting many Games this Year
Aish is purer than Greenwood.
Wells, is the silk in the best silk department.
He will be magic for us.

I do notice when he has time he Tries to kick the Perfect Kick and that is why I reckon you see those Shockers. He is Fantastic by Hand. Need to play on Instinct and not think too much.

That is why I see him as a Possible Gun Inside Mid

Trying too hard because he figures his place in the side is under threat maybe... ?? But yeah, think less, do more...

For someone who is such a highly rated kick fmd his daisy cutters a really anoying, Especially when he has time and space. FFS its not that hard to kick a simple drop punt. I was willing to let it go last year as it was hard enough for him just to get the ball in his hands but now its time he has to eliminate that from his game. For such a good kick he should be above that.

Good observation mike123......reminds me of Adams in his first year with us.

I agree he has to step up this year.

He is a lock for round 1.

I try to temper my expectations for Aish, but I cant seem to shake off a huge like for this guy. I loved him even more after umbrella-gate! Must be one of those inexplicable connections that fans make with players, which have very little basis in logic.

Then he let's me down on the field.:(

Think its time to change to my avatar.

Aish is not ahead of Greenwood as an inside player

Aish definitely played a lot better against Richmond but looking at a best 22 im not sure he can get in, in my view it is between him and Phillips and Phillips has had the better pre season overall out of the 2.

Unless of course he is the preferred option over WHE? Like the x factor WHE brings though.

His back half of last year showed he can be a player. But based on JLT performances; Aish is not best 22 and our least impactful midfielder at the moment. Blair, Greenwood, Phillips, Smith, WHE all ahead of him. As is Wells obviously. At times Aish shows a real lack of intensity which is something I just hate in a player. We can't justify squeezing him into the 22 ahead of any of these guys in my view.

It also means we can drop Mayne ;)
He's doing a pretty good job of forcing our hand with his performances at the moment.

Are we sure when we picked him up we didn't mean to offer the contract to Mundy and confused the two? Seems the only reason you'd take him.

You might be onto something... Gubby was pretty distracted at the time. Perhaps we thought we were dealing with West Coast and getting Priddis?
West Australian clubs and their curly mop head players all look the same to us?

Maybe because he has not been given a Chance as a Inside Player. Though Both Play Different Kind of Inside Mid

Well I guess you never going to Like Aish as he is a Laconic type of Player

Surprised Shaun McManus didn't end up with the four year contract tbh

No.. I was liking him the last half of last season as I said. He can be as laconic as he likes as long as he gets a lot more involved than 8 disposals in a game playing as a midfielder!! He hovers around the ball too much rather than going at it and trying to win it. He may be instructed to do that but he needs to learn to do it a lot better if he's going to be an effective mid and be a regular in the 22. And he needs to take the game on and be more attacking when he has the ball.

Maybe that because he is playing a Outside Role so he is waiting for someone to get the Ball for Him. Though I have seen him Go when he has to.

I agree he Needs to be More Attacking, He does not have to take the Game On but I would like him to Kick the Ball longer then he has. As I have found he pretty much gone the Short Way(Short Kick or Handball) too Much

I didn't think he was that bad in the game, it was just his disposal let him down which may have made his game look worse.

Aishes biggest problem is he lacks any sort of physical weapons.

He's still pretty slim but also fairly slow without great agility... leaves him under pressure a lot to dispose the ball quickly which effects his disposal.

and Those where his 1st 2 Kicks he had that mad people think he played Worse then He Really Did. He was not the Only had a Few Shockers. He had quite a Few Friends

Don't Remember him doing that Much in his 2nd Go at AFL Level last year.

That group of players you've listed is a diverse bunch and in my opinion should never be competing for the same spots in the 22. I spent some time this morning reading over some stats and I noticed a trend of sorts. You can classify players as uncontested or contested by the ratio of those possession types. In general players who have a ratio greater than 2:1 are outside uncontested types, and those below your inside contested players. The absolute elite outside players tend to go at a ratio above 3 and the elite inside clearance machines, Dangerfield, JPK, Fyfe etc, at or below 1. Those players you mentioned over their careers go at:

Aish: 1.7, Greenwood: 1.34, Wells: 1.83, Phillips: 3.08, Smith: 3.16, WHE: 1.81, Blair: 1.05

Right away we should take Phillips and Smith out of any discussions about whether Aish plays or not as they clearly play a very different style of game. Next WHE stats are a little meaningless as a midfielder as he has spent most his time forward and the same goes for Blair. Although on Blair that is not a good ratio, he does not win enough of the ball to justify such a low percentage of uncontested possession.

That leaves just Greenwood and Wells left to compete with Aish for a spot. I agree with you that Wells is clearly ahead of Aish but I believe Aish is a better option than Greenwood. Greenwood averages 18 disposals a game, 10up and 8cp. That's a good balance but given his poor disposal that is more like 5up and 8cp. That suddenly does not look so hot for a senior player. Aish on the other hand is young and if we ignore his time at Brisbane his ratio changes to 1.4 at an average of 15 disposals, 9up and 6cp. Given Aish's disposal that is more like 6up and 6cp for an average of 12, one less than Greenwood. Given Aish has much greater scope for improvement than Greenwood and his game on the weekend was more reminiscent of his finish to last season, if it comes down to Aish vs Greenwood for the last spot in round 1 I would prefer to see Aish get the nod.

Specifically on Aish I'm a little concerned that in Buckleys post game press conference he mentioned Aish when listing players who can play a role on the wing to allow Sidebottom to play forward. Looking at these stats he is unlikely to rack up enough possessions on the wing to be effective in a true outside role.

Finally in case anyone wants to accuse me of cherry picking Aish's 2016 stats while using Greenwood's career totals to suit my argument, in regards to the stats I've used, Greenwood's 21 games in 2016 yielded results spot on his career average.

Add Broomy's VFL form and that we're yet to see Wills, there's lots of players in the inside mid queue.

Great post.
I'm concerned that Bucks views Aish in a way that doesn't maximise his strengths. To me, Aish has one big trick - clean hands and absolutely elite awareness in traffic. The rest of his game is pretty midddle of the road. Yet, I get the impression that Bucks is very keen for him to be an outside finisher.

Indeed. Wills is a forgotten man at the moment. But he's right there in the mix too I would've thought. Why hasn't he been seen? Is he injured ?

I do worry that as a Purer Outside Player that Aish could Average over 20+ Touches a game

I also getting the Feeling Bucks is not using Aish to he Best Possible Postion. He can play Outside but where he stands out is the Inside Work.

Though I would say his Kicking is Above Average and is a Elite Mark

Should Bucks use Aish in his best possible position of its to the detriment of the team?
