There's an episode of Carpool Karaoke where James Cordern suggests to Adele that she needs a "hype man". She's not convinced but as she sings he yells unnecessary and meaningless nonsense over the top of her; "get your hands up!", "c'mon!", "yeah!".
I've realised this is the role James Brayshaw plays. He's not a commentator, he's the hype guy. Designed to add his own brand of excitement to exciting moments, he yells jingoisms and exclamations over the play ("bloody hell!"), and reinforces the obvious. The siren sounds in last night's Carl v Geel - "siren!" he screams, almost as if we're not able to hear it too.
Put him in the hype box and don't look for any depth and he almost makes sense.
