I was just thinking how "sure" gary's hands have been in aerial contests this year. He has always been good overhead but do you think towards the end of his career would he make a good full forward or pocket player when he tires down a bit and bulks up (late career spread).

I think he could be a Brad Johnson type, he has the talent, skill and pedigree to do almost anything on the field. In his current form, it would be fair to say that if you picked Ablett or Judd, you would not miss anything either way in impact and talent.

While Gaz is pretty light on (as he needs to be to be playing midfield permanently), I think he has a natural ability to bulk up as he gets older. It wouldn't surpise me at all to see him in the forward line, and with a bit more weight, I think he'd play a fair bit taller as well.

He can take a ball one grab above his at full pace its a very hard thing to defend, Cameron Ling is another one that gets under the guard it seems his marking gets better when we need it in crunch time at the end of matches.

Well, if it's anything to go by, his past experiences as a one-out option from the goalsquare (ala Nathan Brown) have been nothing but successes as far back as I can remember.

Of course, such end-of-career thinking is still far away, and I'm just happy to enjoy the current Gaz, which incidently enough I've been waiting to see for far too long. One thing at a time.

Reality check.

Gazza is at his peak right now, this season.
Its very, very, unlikely that he'll sustain this level over a career.

Look at McKernan, Crawford, Cam Bruce, Goodes, Kouta, Turley, Akermanis, Woewodin, Haselby, Nick Stevens, its difficut, if not impossible to maintain the absolute ball bursting, best player in the comp, opposition destroying form for more than half a season.

Even the three recent uber-players Voss, Hird and Bucks didnt maintain gazza's level of form through their career. Their legends were built on captaincy, leadership and consistency at a high (but not brownlow) level.

Sure these guys (and gazza) had/will have outstanding careers but they all had a peak like gazza is having now.

Thats what makes Judd, Carey and Gazza Snr such legends....they maintained it.

Whaddya reckon? I had a look brownlow results over tha past 10 years and these players all had a stretch (4-10) games where they got top vote after top vote.
