Pittman's wedding plans
November 22, 2004 - 9:06AM

Australian track star Jana Pittman plans to marry British athlete Chris Rawlinson just days after the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

Pittman announced her engagement to Rawlinson, who she met at the Athens Olympics, on Friday.

She said today they would marry after competing at the Commonwealth Games.

"We are going to get married the week after the Commonwealth Games, so the second of April (2006)," Pittman told the Nine Network today.

The 22-year-old athlete, who braved a knee injury to come fifth in the Athens Olympics 400m hurdles, will compete in the same event at the Commonwealth Games, as well as the 400m flat run and possibly the 4x400m relay.

Rawlinson, who suffered a serious knee injury at the Olympics, said the two were brought together by their plights.

"I was very unlucky as well during the Olympics," he told the Nine Network.

"I came out of the blocks, hit the first hurdle and destroyed my knee at the same time, so it was really a rollercoaster of a ride for us, the Olympics.

"It was incredible, such a disastrous sequence of events, that something like this has come out of it - I'm overjoyed by it, it's great. She's not a bad girl."

Pittman said Rawlinson had been very supportive.

"He's been with me the whole way through with advice ... and calmed my nerves down before the race and things like that and just added a shoulder to lean on," she said.

Rawlinson said he would aim to retain his title in the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay.

Pittman said her first race since restarting training would be the national titles next year, then she planned a long international season in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games.

"Up until then I probably am going to avoid most races," she said.

I'm sure everyone here will join me in wishing Jana all the best :D

Even her fiance couldent get out something like 'she's fantastic' or 'shes a great chick' etc etc.

I can see the big media debacle when 6 weeks out, the wedding dress does not arrive, and then it'll be a race against time for her to make it down the aisle in her chosen dress. The media will be right beside her through the pain and anguish as she looks for alternative dresses and lo and behold, she'll get married in a white dress. But she'll stuff her lines up and blame it on her preperation.

I just love Jana so much that I am going to be riveted to this saga/fiasco from start to finish. Bring it on!
