Honour his contract, act as professionals, lower his stress levels and see how the kids develop over the next 18 months.

Keep Wallace till the end of 2009 :thumbsu:

Thoughts?

if they can win games then he can stay, otherwise time to go. a coaching change will reinvigorate the players old and young and maybe they wont get so many duds!

i agree, honour the contract, if he has one more bad season we get some serious talent in novemeber.

if by round 10-11 next year we arent showing marked improvement then put out a media release that Terry will no longer be coaching us and find someone else

all this bull.shit that sheedy or daniher will be coach is bloody ridiculous.

Im a massive fan of wallace but even i was shocked and apalled at what i saw on the weekend, the lack of structure has me worried which is why i'll give him until mid next season. any earlier is just not worth it... what bring ina new coach then win about 6-8 games and finish 10th-11th, yep that would be fantastic for the club

Sack the coach ... yeah great idea, it's been such a successful move for us over the last 25 years hasn't it !!!

Honour his contract then extend it I say.

Agree... l want the contract honoured too. I dont see any value in what Carlton did to Pagan and replace him with a bloke that is 0-9 already.

However, if our skills do not show any sign of improvement... then Wallace and his assistants position becomes untenable.

Our skills are such an embarassment.

I'd extend his contract by 2yrs beyond 2009 in May and stick it right up the swing-whichever-way-we-can-whinge-the-most supporters and the coterie/ex-player morons.

It sends a loud clear message to the senior players who have got coaches sacked in the past that it ain't gonna happen this time. We're bigger than your bullshit.

It sends a loud clear message to the kids that their AFL career relies on performing under Wallace.

It sends a loud clear message to anyone considering coaching in the future, that if Wallace hasn't achieved what he set out to do in 2005, at least we gave him his due time, and that the board and CEO didn't cave in like scared rabbits to the bleating, whinging 'somehow fix it RIGHT NOW, we don't know how, but fix it RIGHT NOW' moron element which infests this club on so many levels.

There are 41 H&A games between now and the end of the 2009 season. For Wallace to get an extension he must have no worse than a 40% winning record by time Round 16 rolls around next year. Thats 16-17 wins from the next 35 games.

Some may say I'm setting the bar too high while others may think it is not high enough but if we can win 40% of games in the rest of Wallace's contract then surely that is a sign that progress is coming along. Anything less that this and Wallace should just fall on his sword and not wait for the tap on the shoulder from the club.

Terry will bring success if we be patient. We must allow him to finish his 5 year contract because we will be thankfull for it and I bet we will be wanting to sign him again

Wallace got a 5 year deal for a good reason.

The team was awful and needed to be rebuilt from the ground up and the 5 years was an acknowledgement that this would take time, wouldn't always look pretty, and the coach needed the confidence of a long deal to ensure he could make the hard, longer term, calls.

As such, we should see out his contract. Sure, as others have mentioned, next year, it might be decided that he isn't going to make it, and the search for a new coach will commence before the season is out ( and Wallace may well resign due to having lost the boards confidence ), but officially at least, he's got the gig until round 22, 2009.

That said, I'm not impressed. So far this year, the team has looked like a rabble, and it was especially obvious against Collingwood, that we play a very undisciplined style of game..I can see that it takes time for young players to develop their body, skills and confidence, but surely following basic team rules can be done from game 1.

My other concern ( and this is only partly coach related ) is that the players seem to lack confidence in themselves and their teammates...A good team has players, running hard to a spot, confident that they'll either get the ball, or open things up for others *knowing* that others will be behaving similarly and the person with the ball will notice and find a good option. People complain about our poor disposal...I don't see that as the problem, the problem is lack of good options to dispose to, and that comes from the players off the ball working hard for each other.
