Kelvin Moore

What's the latest on Kelvin Moore's return? All injury reports say indefinite but I recall them saying anywhere between rounds 5 - 8 a few weeks ago.
Could've used him today...
He's our best KP stopper, yes?

Re: Kelvin Moore

Whilst it would have been handy to have Kel Moore today, his absence has allowed us to develop those defenders that either had question marks or blood youngsters earlier than anticipated.

If he came back, Rance maybe the one to go. However, with Moore out, Grimes and Batchelor would not have got near the amount of game time they've had.

Its been the perfect situation for us. Would rather Moore take his time and get whatever it is right and lets see if Rance / McGunae are right to persevere with or Grimes / Batchelor are ready.

Re: Kelvin Moore

I think Moore's injury is far worse than is being let on to the public.

Re: Kelvin Moore

Posted this in another thread (leads to the point that we are missing Moore in a big way):

Some very interesting stats (from a HUN article on Geelong) that show where we are at as a side:

Inside-50 entries: Richmond allows teams to score 56.9 per cent of the time and goal 28.8 per cent of the time. (Leader: The Cats have conceded 49.1 entries a game - the most by the club since 2006 - but teams are scoring only 38.3 per cent of the time.

They have allowed a goal only 18.0 per cent of time - again the lowest.)

Goals from stoppages: Richmond has leaked 438 points from stoppages and Port Adelaide has conceded 352 in eight games. Cats have conceded only 124 points from stoppages in seven games at a rate of a little more than 20 a game.

These are very telling stats...basically my take on it is that our defense (and defensive work as a team) is still developing and when a team also starts winning contested possession (as the doggies did yesterday), we struggle to contain teams. I love what Hardwick is doing with the team but A LOT of work needs to continue to go into the our defence (and defensive efforts as a whole) moving forward.

The goals from stoppages can be partly fixed by bigger bodies (which comes with time and weights etc...) but the coaches need to work on our structures as well. No point looking to kick 18+ goals only to leak 20+.

Like I said, we need to expect inconsistent performances from the kids for another couple of years whilst they develop. At the same time however, I do want to see our defensive structures take shape a little more. Having Moore out does not help one bit...Maguane and Rance together is a real worry for me. Their disposal and decision making under pressure is ordinary at best and having both of them in the team can really hurt us.

Re: Kelvin Moore

Kel has just been placed on the Long Term Injury List

This means a minimum of 8 weeks but more likely 2011 is shot unfortunately

The club has yet to decide on a rookie upgrade

was just about to post that. He's 27 and played 84 games. He is our best defender. Will he get a few games later this year, will he become a depth player or will he be on the chopping block? (like thursty) I think we'll keep him.

Not good news for Kel.

I think Hislop would surely be the upgrade, given the Coburg reports. Surely this is his make or break year. (Thats been said a few times before tho)

If there is any positive here it's that it gives us the oppurtunity to get a few more games into Grimes, Astbury, Rance, Post etc.

With the injury to Kel, would it be worth one last roll of the dice for Gourdis?

not cool for Kel, wonder if we will see him again, being the oldest of the three musketeers, sheesh, we had such hopes.

Hope we see Goo,
actually wonder if he could be a swingman too?

but glad to be pumping games into the young uns - just remember - in 5 years they might be Thursty, McG Moore

happy with that?

The oldest, probably smallest and yet the best.

I'm not prepared to put a line through Goo, but I'm a little hesitant on the whole "swingman" idea. I think he needs to be played as a KPD and left there.

Personally I'd hope that in 5 years we have something like
Astbury - CHB
Grimes - FB
Rance?/Post?/Gourdis? Third tall
No doubt it will change, in 5 years we could see only one,two or even none of them in the side, such is the nature of KP players and how the side changes.

I'd also hope we have a better trio than Thursty, McGuane and Moore as I believe that's a huge weakness of our side at the moment (KP Defenders)

happy with that?

boldy bold bolded.

Tragic. He's only 27 so hopefully with a good pre-season he can come back healthy next year and have a big 2012.

Time for the Goo, Thursty or even Post to step up now.

Spoke in our room last night. He's gone for the year. Hip surgery shortly.

Haere Ra
We must have been in the same room. Will go in for hip surgery this week. Out for the year.

I was in the Hasset/Miller/Ryder rooms. He spoke to us and then had to speak in another room straight away, so I presume it was yours.
