An interesting article at real footy :
http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/20010213/A21878-2001Feb13.html

It talks about Loats and his progression in the post Salmon era. They are saying he is likely to share the rucking against Richmond in Tassie because Rehn is injured. I don't know much about Loats so I found it interesting, especially as he never seems to get much of a mention in the forums or the press.

Hi elt. Dont worry about Loats, if he can get a little bit more expeirience (and who better to teach him that than Fish and Rehn) under his belt. He will become a very good ruckman. Agile, quick beautiful balance and quite a nice palmer of the ball. Still light and his marking could improve, but im sure that will come in time. Remember that the big blokes take longer to mature too.

Also dont totally write of BOF yet either. IF (IFIFIF funny how that word springs up in relation to Brett lol) he can stay fit, hes got ability and can mark like few others in the league. Can hoof the ball a street too. Just moves like some great Hawk ruckman of the past (Kershaw,Hoyer,Terry Moore) as the only thing against him.

Cheers.

Loats and Rode arrived at Hawthorn at the same time. Rode was pretty much physically filled out, and Loats was a skinny beanpole, but there was no doubt which was the more talented. I was very surprised to see Rode get a game ahead of Loats last year. Rode didn't seem to have much football sense.

I can't fathom BOF at all. He was unhappy with the treatment he received at the Swans, which is why he came down here. I would have thought he was a ready made, and that only injury held him back. A couple of years on and he STILL looks like a developing player. Loats will get a regular spot ahead of Boffa easy.

Spot on re Loats guys.Grendel has summed him up perfectly so I wont repeat except to say give him time to pick up the tempo...hard for any young guys - especially big fellas.
The kid IS a natural ruckman...I guess we're about to find out how good a natural ruckman he is.

Re BOF....I saw a lot of him 'close-up' at BHH last year and for what it's worth he's not as laid back as he looks. He was incredibly frustrated with his injuries and poor form and his lack of success REALLY hurt him. That doesn't mean he can overcome them but I kinda like a guy who really feels it when he's down.I'm inclined to stick with him - as a supporter - for another year. MUST start taking grabs though.

I really will have to try to get to more BHH games this year to check out the up and comers.
