Let's also not forget that Gwilt for ages was played as a forward flanker - and sucked at it. It was only when he was placed into the backline that everything clicked.

We damn well should have delisted Gwilt the forward flanker. From a certain point of view, we did delist him, and pick up Gwilt the gun backman instead.

(... and Darth Vader betrayed and murdered your father...)

Isn't it a free forum to look back at old discussions etc? or is it your forum? seems other are having a read of it as well....

And yeah wasn't having a go at him at all, just wondering what he thinks now. Not a complete crime is it?

Yeah it is mate, and i'm really happy to be wrong about Dempster, and that Gwilty did in fact prove himself.
I wish I had been correct about the young players coming through. ( I never did understand why Attard was de-listed. )

It's all good, i know it was posted ages ago. Just thought i'd bump and see what you thought now, pretty interesting going back and having a look at some old threads and stuff. :)

I think Attard never really recovered from his ACL, although he wasn't given much of a chance

I was actually wrong in Van Rheenan being a talent. But hey Ross may have been wrong about Haratuku and he was probably privy to more information than me.
As far as my list ( which I was prompted to name ) , apart from Gwilt and Dempster I'm pretty happy.
Eddy looked good at the time, but even with AFL games he never really improved.

Pretty sure it was exactly that. A good mate of mine is friends with Jayden Attard. He was told he did everything the club wanted him to do in his recovery but still got delisted as he was too one-dimensional (ie: being a shut-down/tagger)

Did his ACL and was delisted at around the time we'd expect him to recover by my memory.

Didnt they delist him because we needed room for someone in the pre-season draft? Similar to Winmar last year?

Except Winmar couldn't play at AFL level, and Attard played almost a complete season.
In my opinion ( not worth much I know ) he was a better player ( but different role ) at AFL level than Raph Clarke.
We took Colm Begley and Paul Cahill with our last two picks, and Brad Howard was retained onto the Rookie list.

Ohh - jeez. Begley was never any good and Cahill was an A-Grade tool. I always thought Howard had promise so I can understand them drafting him but not at Attard's expense. It makes it all the more bizarre that they delisted Attard.
