Is that a fair trade?

Karl Malone to Dallas and Juwan Howard to Utah?

Personally i think it would benefit both sides immensely.

Adding Malone will allow Dallas to seriously challenge for the title this year and next, he will make the difference, his offensive presence and sheer size are much needed out Dallas way.

The only worry i would have with Malone at Utah is how he'll handle being the second or third scoring option behind Dirk 'Diggler' and Finley

Juwan Howard going to Utah would benefit them as well, first off, they'd get something for Karl with would be a huge bonus, secondly although 28 Juwan Howard would bring much needed younger legs into the Jazz frontcourt.
It would also allow Juwan to get back to his scoring levels of earlier years because he'll get a stack more shooting opportunities with only Donyell being the only other real scoring threat.

This deal has huge upsides for both franchises, i hope they get it done

I don't think it would benefit both teams at all. Malone is in a funk right now, and sulking. The Mavs aren't going too badly, and they are a young team. Malone does not have many years left, and though he is a big man, I'm sure his bones are creaking and getting ready for retirement. Howard is doing what he is told, and been a good role player off the bench. The Jazz are hurting, cos Malone hasn't been playing to the standard he usually is. As you said P&P, you aren't sure how Malone would perform as a 3rd option. I doubt he'd cope as he has been the main man for so many years with Utah. I believe the Mavs would lose badly on this deal, should it go through.

But are the Mav's capable of winning the title with there current squad? i don't think so.

As much as i like Shawn Bradley, a front court of Bradley and Griffin ain't gonna match it with the good sodes come playoff time.

Malone slotting in at 4 would take them all the way i think

i think the reports said a third team may be involved..

a straight up swap would be shyte for Utah...
they should go for younger legs... juwan is a good forward, could return to his all-star play of a few seasons ago, but then probably not..

if utah wish to rebuild, they should shop for younger legs that will actually benefit utah in the long term.. dont think utah would be that foolish to settle for just juwan and his fat contract..

This is why I don't like the NBA. Is nobody sacred?
First Ewing and Olajuwon are traded, and now Malone. Where is the loyalty gone???
I was really interested in the NBA in the mid 90's. Now all the great players from that time, Ewing, Olajuwon, Jordan, Kemp and Shaq just to name a few have changed clubs. Dominique and Barkley played for other clubs before retiring. Is there anyone that plays with one club for a whole career??? John Stockton maybe, anyone else?

I forgot about Juwan's extraordinarily big and long contract.

The problem is the Jazz need someone to come in and have an impact quickly, you take Malone out of that lineup and they're plain bad.

It sounds great to say they need to revuild but you and i both know that clubs like the Jazz just don't do that, the mere fact that they'd be trading away a club legend means that it is vital for the incoming player to have an impact so as the fans can justify the trading away of Malone.

Without Malone there's 3 slots on the Utah starting lineup, they could do with a PF, C and a SG.

Cheers

yeah.. true... its all business... players are just commodities that are signed, traded, swapped, ditched...

got to realise that nba rosters are really limited... unlike AFL where u can keep a large number of players on the books, in the nba u've only got a certain number to fill (opening day rosters limited to 12?? something like that)... and positions on rosters are pretty limited..

yepp.. stockton.. reggie miller... gary payton... are the ones that spring to mind..

Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Larry Bird, David Robinson just to name a few...

I think in cases such as Ewings and Olajuwons is that they are now old and in Ewings case more so than Olajuwons, he craves a title. Something that wouldnt happen in NY. Ewing actually asked to be traded and gave them a list of teams which would be suitable. Olajuwon knew that Houston was no longer a threat and looked elsewhere. Malone is now joining that scheme. His chance with Utah has passed and now he is desperate for a title before he retires.

In Jordans case there was no option to go back to Chicago because of his sour relationship with Jerry Krause and Jerry Reinsdorf. Jordan wouldnt have retired in 98 if it wasnt for Jerry & Jerry wanting to break up the side and rebuild. What idiots, that Bulls squad still had 3 more titles in them.

On the trade, Dallas would be stupid to do it. Im not sure how Malone would handle getting only 10 shots a game and scoring maybe 10 a night. He has being the man his entire career but in Dallas he would be the third option behind Nowitski and Finley, Nash is also a scorer. Dallas are relatively young and by bringing in Malone they would need to steal a title in the next year or two for the deal to be a success as Malone wont be around much longer.

As for Utah, why take Howard and his huge contract..he's not exactly and All Star and he is 28 himself. If your gonna trade Malone, get some youth in return. Be interesting to see how much longer Stockton plays without Malone?

Magic, Isiah and Larry are from an era where I liked basketball. Players didn't leave willy nilly like these days. I also think that because of the huge money in the NBA players continue past their prime. Hakeem and Ewing are both has beens. Pippen and Kemp are both getting about ten points a game. Guys like Mitch Richmond and Glen Rice are terrible.

I just can't keep an interest in a game where all the players leave. I go for the Bulls, and it shats me every year when they trade the best player. After Jordan and Pippen were gone they traded Kukoc. Now we have traded Brand. Will Mercer be traded nest season?

Richmond will retire after this season if he gets a ring with LA. RIce is still serviceable, he's a great shooter. Pippen is still a great player, its not just about scoring, he still gets boards and assists plus he a great defensive player and thinker. Also a great leader, to suggest Pippen should retire is a bit stupid. Ewing and Hakeem are only still playing because there arent any decent centres in the league so they can still compete. Plus Ewing just wants a title....

Im with you on the Bulls, first Jordan goes but then they trade Pippen!! then Kukoc goes :( and now Brand....i hope to hell Curry and Chandler come good.
