Just read he is added to the squad for next test. Now I am getting confused by this; why do we need him? Why do we need an all rounder? We don’t. We need an established top 6 batting line up. Stoinis hasn’t done enough at shield level to warrant a place. This is bordering on stupidity again. We win one test and all of a sudden we are getting cute with an all rounder who has a batting average in FC cricket below 35?

Who does he replace? Can’t see anyone as a like for like. If you’re going to pick someone to bat at 6 just pick Wade FFS.

I don't think we should probably be playing Stoinis but Wade has been given extended runs in both the Test and ODI teams and was for the most part a dud. It's not a 'no brainer' going back to him once again in his 30s despite good form at a lower level.

Stoinis with a much better technique with the bat but still only averages 2 more at FC level than Mitch Marsh so let's not all act shocked when he fails.

But what has he done to deserve it? We aren’t England and have a Ben stokes waiting at shield level. The SL bowlers are even troubling us, we need a top 6 that can bat. We aren’t in the luxurious position of experimenting with an all rounder.

I don’t disagree with any of your reasons but there are times when a pitch will be super flat and a fifth option is important. I think Stoinis could be good in England.

I don’t agree with a lot of Warne says (Michael Beer anyone?) but in this case I do agree there is something about Stoinis. He is on an upward trajectory I feel and seems to be getting better and better the older he gets, a late bloomer if you will. Plus he is in form this year, no one can argue that.

I also think Khawaja needs a rest. He’ll be in the Ashes team but who else should be? I’m not sold on Head or Harris, they seem to get 30 every time and then out, that isn’t always helpful if everyone in the team is like that.

I don’t rate Labummer at all yet. I can see the appeal in his technique but his concentration is woeful after he gets a start, ala Head/Harris, even Patterson.

Stoinis offers a different pace option that could be really useful in England. I also don’t think England is as good as is being made out on these boards. They are beatable but Australia has to get the selections right and I feel Stoinis is one of those and Marnus/Head are not, based on nothing more than a gut feel really.

Selection of players for a higher level isn't ALL about simply picking who has made the runs or taken the most wickets, when you simply look at this you end up with stuff like Hasting steaming in at the WACA to bowl military mediums or McGain the 'best' spinner in the SS making a fool of himself.

There is fair reasoning to picking Wade again but there is also a reasonable argument that they could give him a miss when he has never proven up to it at international level.

You’d have to consider him if he, in particular, went to England and played County and did a great job. The same argument I made for wanting to see Pattinson bowl in the ashes but he looks gone again to injury.

I’d be willing to give Wade more of an opportunity over Marsh as Wade has plenty of years left.
