He was competing during his career with a few similar players in Robbins, Contessa and Mahoney though Robbo was the longest survivor of the bunch.

I always thought Alvey was a gutsy little player who always looked like he was going to step up the next level.

Yeah I thought much the same, then he did his knee I think from memory that it was the same year that Grant did his knee. He went on to Essendon and then after he was cut from the Bombers list and he wrote a scathing article about Sheedy and his time at Essendon.

I remember Alvey as a small skillful player, we traded him to essendon, wasn't he part of the Rawlings deal?

A lot of people saw him as a receiver because he rarely won a contested ball but he worked enormously hard and usually when he took an uncontested mark he had a defender 20 metres behind him gasping for air.

When he did his knee and couldn't do that anymore and he had nothing else.

had the best chainsaw before brett lee.................. dont remember anything about his football, sad...............

Got a lot of his kicks in the 3rd row of the telstra dome. Had a purple patch for a while there, had a dime a dozen of his type.

When he did his knee, it really stuffed him up. I played in a bulldogs Golf day that year and he was there, but not playing. I couldn't believe the amount of weight he put on, he was really fat.

The best game he played was Grants 250th game, his precison kicking (almost as good as Gilbee) was a great treat that day at the G.

Coached Wentworth ( his home town i think) in the Sunraysia Football League for the last two years after knocking back an offer from Port Adelaide. Broke his leg in the first game of the 2006 season may have played at the end of 2006 his side went out in the preliminary in 2006 (i think) In 2007 he broke his jaw first or second game came back and again his side went out early in the finals.
Don't quote me though.

Didn't make many friends @ Port Adelaide Magpies....

Very "interesting" chain of events. Allegedly.
