Didn't have a great year last year. Would love for boof to give him a call and let him know he could get in, ask he work on his fitness but don't say he has to be at a certain weight to get in. From reports he actually did lose a bit after moving down to Tassie but then basically realized he wasn't going to be ever considered and went back to not giving much of a shit. Technically though he would be a lot better than most at 3.

Also don't get the excuse that he shouldn't be considered because he lacks discipline with his weight. Warner keeps getting picked despite lacking discipline with well everything, others seem unable to work on areas of their game and keep getting picked etc.

he is a natural cricketer and deserves a spot if he meets fitness targets

For the people who simply say pick consgrove it's so unfair, do you guys feel frustrated even in the slightest by his refusal to make any real attempt to improve his fitness?

Fair enough if you have a beef with CA but to absolve cosgrove of any responsibly in this seems odd, if i was as sure as you guys that he could have an impact in test cricket i would be mad as hell at his stubbornness.

That is why the qualification is "meeting fitness targets".

I'm not opposed to picking a guy carrying a few extra kegs, but the guy is 5'8" and weighs 95kg. That's ****ing obese.

I'd be worried about the guy dropping dead of a heart attack in the middle of a Test match.

Weight and skill isn't so much of an issue as attitude. We have big enough problem with that as it is.

yeah, you're right with the above.

not to mention, his weight issues could be linked to depression or other mental health issues.

being in the spot light might not necessarily be the best thing for him.

If South Australia had delisted him 10 years ago and told him to come back when he'd lost 15 kilos, he'd probably be okay now. Once a guy gets to his late 20s and is that fat, there's pretty much no chance he's ever going to be a normal weight.

I don't dispute he needs to lose weight but consider this, he's still a better runner between the wickets than say Watto, he's a decent slips fielder and besides not being the quickest sprinter isn't terrible fielding around the ground... and there has been some other slow fielders. When you add to that his ability to mix it up with his bowling if needed, I think he still comes out ahead all round over some of the other options. Like I mentioned earlier, would love Boof just to let him know he would be considered if he's making runs but he needs to also show he's working on fitness but don't say he has to be at an elite fitness level just to be picked which I believe he was basically told earlier.. once picked the expectation would be to keep improving on it.

The only thing that matters is his on-field performance. The only reason coaches want players to be 'fit' is so that they can perform.

If his weight means that we have six other batters who can outperform him on the field, then that's fine. But I'm not sure we do.

He would of never come back.

Good. Let him go eat pies on a building site as a labourer or something.

Completely disrespectful to every other player in the team who works hard on their fitness to give an obese prick like that a place in the side.

This is the thing; how hard is it to not eat pies, KFC and pizza for a month?

He could drop 15kgs in a month by just eating a normal diet with no processed food.

Fitness can only get you so far. In most sports...

Sure. But fitness is how you get the best out of yourself. How can you ask the rest of the team to show commitment, when you're willing to tolerate such a total lack of commitment from one particular player?

It's a team sport, and no individual is bigger than the team. Well, metaphorically at least.

Yeah fair enough. I really dont know where I stand on this, but I dont think it will matter as he wont get picked anyway.

So was it disrespectful to select Warne or Darren Lehman? Fair enough if it is a line ball you go for the intangibles (or in this case the tangible) but performance is really all that matters.

A player doesn't have to get the best out of themselves. Sure it'd be nice, but a batter only needs to perform better than the 7th best batter to deserve selection.

Warne and Lehmann weren't clinically obese.

Its a team game. Being one of the eleven best players in the country doesn't automatically make you part of the country's best XI.

Someone who lacks commitment to the degree Cosgrove clearly does is nothing but a blight on the team. Why would any other player try and improve themselves with that fat **** in the side? Complacency, thy name is Puddings.

Differ on that. I'd think that would be the definition.

Anyway, if it's a team game then England shouldn't have picked Pietersen with his poor attitude.

Cosgrove is truly an enigma. The guy was blessed with the ability to play test cricket, but sadly he probably never will. That said, we've never been lighter on for in-form batsmen, and cricket is a funny game.

I'm currently in the state under 17 Tassie squad and we had Cossie come down to training to give us some tips on Wednesday. Might just have been what he was wearing but he did look a little thinner than usual. Still not what you'd classify 'fit' obviously. He looked a bit weird cos he still had a bit of a gut but he seemed to have really skinny legs

I must say - despite all the losses in India and England - one positive is that all our batters look fit and healthy. They obviously work hard on their fitness which is a credit to them.

Probably because they don't play long innings on a regular basis tbh.

If Cosgrove was ever going to get a chance it would be in the coming season against the Poms. But as much as the cupboard is almost bare, it's hard to see Cosgrove getting that call up.

There are only really two positions that are currently up for grabs and it does look like Hughes and Warner will get most of the series.
