Mark Roberts (1998 Grand Final)

Howdy people,
Just been having a look at all the old grand finals as of late ....and then i came across the 1998 Grand final when we were beaten by the Crow eaters.
Now I was there that day as many of us would have been, but one thing i didnt really take notice of on the day was the fact that Mark Roberts didnt take the field after half time!!
Now in my opinion the FRIDGE was B.O.G up until he did his hammy.....and North were looking very sharp, especially Winston in the 1st Quarter.
It was kind of the same this year for the Brisbane boys when Martin Pike was absolutely dominating up until he got injured and didnt play any further part in the match....but you see there reward was that they won the flag and we didnt.

So my Question to you people is ``Do you think that Mark Roberts not playing any further part in the 98 grand final have any effect on the teams spirits or is it just something that will never be answered?

What are you - some kind of macho-saddist or something??? How could you possibly put yourself thru watching that game again??? The only time I have ever seen any snippet of a replay of that game, the TV has been turned off within 0.2 of a second. I have tried to eliminate all memories of that day from my mind. So to answer your question, sorry I have NFI and don't intend to do the research to find out...

Dont think Roberts was the difference, we spent all our petrol tickets in the 1st half and didnt have a big enough lead due to the bad kicking for goals. Adelaide to their credit changed their game after half time and the rest is history.

The 1st quarter is a ripper.

Carey's goal, Jarman's goal, and the battle between Hart and Scholl was just fantastic.


I couldn't even remember Roberts playing.

The reason why we lost is because the boys couldn't bloody kick straight.
We would have burried them.
It was all over by half time except for the scoreboard.
What was our second quarter again?
Something like 2 goals 11 points.

Yep,2.11! And 2.7 in the last quarter but we were being pummelled by then! Have watched a little bit of this game and am none the wiser about what happened at half time, but I think that we came off feeling like we were 12 goals up and couldn't react to Adelaide's resurgence after Blighty "threw the names in the air". Must admit I don't recall the fridge being all that dominant in the first half and doubt I'll look at it again to find out!

LoL that is Unbelieveable that hardly anybody has watched the game again, i dont care if we lost because it is still a Grand Final that we were involved in and id rank the 1994 Preliminary Final loss as more agonising and painful than the 98 Grand Final.
For 3 quarters it was a Good game! and at 3 quarter time we were down by only 1 point.

And we lost by nearly 6 goals.

A big rumour at the time was that Rocky and Shagga came to blows during the half time break.That might have something to do with a flat Kangaroos side taking the field in the second half. Rocky quiting the club also added fuel to the rumour.

If you choose to revel in what we did (and more to the point didn't do) in the 98 GF, then all power to ya! Enjoy it and choke on it for all i care.

Personally, i see no point in bringing up sour memories of one of the club's darkest hours and choose not to watch it and preferably not think about it.

It was a horrible day, and put a tarnish on what could have been an even more memorable era in our club's history IMO.

But each to their own.
