great to see him in action properly playing gaelic yesterday. a lot of talk about him in talks with the club to go back but i hope it aint true. hes a star in both games. scored 5 points yesterday, frees of the ground. plays half forward now for Down, always thought collingwood could have played him there as he would no doubt be amoung the goals.

is he back to studying already to be a teacher? or is he already working while playing?

i'd like him to come back but he is definately not a walk in start to the 22, so i hope he can take having to play vfl for a while and persist

I think he will return to Collingwood next season.

As long as he is happy and not homesick, then yes he is.

not exactly sure what he is doing, read somewhere that he was acting as a GAA development officer in Down. If this is true he would be going round all the schools in the county promoting the GAA. could be wrong on this.

Down lost to Armagh.
I thought Marty was pretty quiet to be honest.
Great kicker off the ground but wasn't massively involved in open play.

He wasn't even in our best 22 when he left, he was out of form. I'm a big marty fan but it just wouldn't be fair to bring him in straight away and kick someone like Johnson out of the side, who is training and playing extremely well by the way.

On talent, Clarke is so easily in our best 22 it's not funny. If he comes over and gives it his all, he'll be in our best 22 in no time.

he looked like he lost a bit of bulk alright watching him on tv yesterday. class player though, his distribution of the ball is pure class.

is there somewhere we can download the Game?

I don't think he was out of form. His performances in the VFL were very good, but because he returned to Ireland for a couple of weeks during the season, and his confusion regarding his future, I feel he was being kept out of the team in preference to a player that was more committed at the time.

I didn't say that Johnson isn't playing well, and so far this season, he is Collingwood's best team too of course. He was missed after getting hurt early in the match against Melbourne and the following week against St.Kilda. Marty Clarke would at least replace Brent Macaffer from last weeks team though.

There is no doubt about that, and I think he will return to Collingwood next season.

yeh he'd be ahead of the caff but then again thats lockyers position. surely lockyers coming back into the side sometime soon .. may be his last season though.. lockyers lost a lot of pace recently, and marty can provide that

no objection to him coming back. i'm just saying, i hope he has the patience and commitment this time around to persist in the vfl for a while until he can crack the main team

Well in my opinion if he comes back next season, which I think he will, then he will be in the team in Round 1 of 2011. Paul Medhurst was dropped for last years Preliminary Final, but was always going to be in Collingwood's best team this year. This article is from the BBC last Thursday...

James McCartan Believes AFL Club Have Approached Clarke

09:54 GMT, Thursday, 22 April 2010 10:54 UK

Down boss James McCartan has agreed that there appears to be substance to reports that efforts are being made to lure Martin Clarke back to Australia.

Clarke's former Australian Football Rules club Collingwood are reported to have been in touch with the player. "I would guess that there is certainly something to the rumours because he's a good enough player," said McCartan. However, the Down boss added that he has not yet broached the subject with the An Riocht club-man. Clarke returned to Ireland last autumn for personal reasons after three successful years with the Melbourne club.

"I didn't think it was my place to start quizzing Marty a week or 10 days before a league final," said McCartan, ahead of Sunday's Allianz NFL Division 2 final against Armagh at Croke Park (1400 BST). "There's no doubt that the guy performed very well when he was out there and there's no reason to think that his ex-team wouldn't want him back in the same way that when he left, Down wanted him back.

"There could well be something in it. I just have to be happy with the here and now - that he's available for this weekend - and I'm assuming that he's available for the summer until he tells me otherwise. "We're delighted to have him and we'll be doing everything in our power to try and make sure he isn't tempted back. Unfortunately they (Collingwood) can offer something that we can't." Cont...
