No wonder his International career is dead and buried. Once again he gets out unecessarily and in a stupid manner when looking like building a decent innings...

From BaggyGreen...

71.2 Casson to Elliott, OUT: couple of steps down the track then not hitting cleanly skies it to mid off

He seems to do this every game. He does not have the mental strength to make it at International level anymore.

VICS 3/164 chasing WA's 275.

According to tonight's Ch. 10 news, rumours are abound that Matthew Elliott may be moving to South Australia this season.

It was news to his coach and teammates but notably we haven't heard Elliott deny the allegations.

Could it be that Elliott has gone in one of his 'funks' and is looking for a change to his career to give his ailing career one final chance.

Lamby29, blewett had a brillian season. What are you talking about? He has been a lot better than elliot this season. He has made some big scores this season.

He has already been placed in the "never again" basket by the selectors. Spent his entire tour of the Caribbean (aside from the total of 30 minutes he spent batting) in the bar drinking.

Good call seeing as Blewett this season scored the most Pura Cup runs (843) at an average of 49.58.
And the most ING Cup runs (486) at an average of 54.00.

I stand corrected. I didn't realise he had scored so many runs this season. But still, I don't think Blewett will ever play tests for Australia again.

I think Blewett has a chace of playing tests. When Steve Waugh retires there will be a spot there. I guess it comes down to whether the selectors choose blewett or a younger player like clarke. Although i think blewett deserves to be back in the test team ahead of clarke on form atm.

Spot the South Australian???

Actually, he did spend a fair length of time at the crease, the problem was he couldn't score any runs while he was out there.

In the first Test of that series he spent over 5 hours at the crease yet could only manage a measly 46 runs - a run amount Matthew Hayden seems to chalk up in about 20 minutes these days.

Not quite 5 hours, although he did bat incredibly slow that day.

Just on that point wagstaff,

I heard that Elliott wasn't at the Mad Monday celebrations because of a death in the family and not because he wanted to go to South Australia.

In fact I saw the death notice in the herald sun just yesterday

I ran a stats filter on Blewett on Baggy Green.

Four centuries and a 43 average in his first 17 Tests. No centuries and a 28 average in his last 29 Tests, with most dismissals being caught behind or clean bowled.

Figures like that make a convincing argument for him to have been dropped, but his form in the Shield is always good, and this would have him on the short list for any vacancies. He's made plenty of runs, but not piled them on like Love, Hayden, Lehmann, etc. have tended to do (huge averages of 70+ for full seasons).

Clarke would be ahead of him in the reckoning for a one-day spot, with Clarke, Love & Lehmann fighting for one spot in the first XI for the Windies tour (two spots if S.Waugh retires).
