i was talking to a family friend of the McGuane's and they stated that teh reason he was getting frustrated was because he always was waiting for richo to go so he could hopefully move up forward... i thought this was strange so has any one herd of luke wanting to move up forward?

The Rusty Trombone has been spruiking McGuane as a forward option for a year or so now but frankly I don't see it.
Does not look likely to pull down some strong marks and kick 2 - 3 per game + the options of Post, Vickery & Griffiths, though they haven't done massive amounts yet, still look more realistic prospects than Luke.

Needs to concentrate on his work in the backline I reckon... I don't mind him there but is now fighting it out with Thursty, Goo & perhaps even Rance!?!?!?
Moore is a third tall and plays best as such.
(And Astbury is locked in as far as I'm concerned...)

He failed the forward experiment last year.

At the moment he's our best defender. Leave him there. When the younger defenders are ready to take his spot, I think Luke will be retired.

Astbury is the only one of the young defenders who has shown that he'll cement his place in the seniors. We need a couple more before Luke's position becomes dicey.

Have to say I would rather see him kicking the ball in our forward half than in defence, I just cringe when he has the ball deep in defence and has to kick:eek:

Bit hard on the bloke. He never trained with the forwards all year so wouldn't know our structures. While he didn't exactly kick a bag, he did get his hands on the ball a bit down there, just needs some composure in front of goals at AFL level.

Couldn't agree more , was tried but not for long . The funny thing was Thursty showed more up front in those games. I think McGaune will spend a bit of time at coburg this year and when he does I hope they give him every opportunity to learn about our forward set up. Then he'll become the ultimate utility .

:thumbsu:would make a pretty good utility imo.

Sounds to me that McGuane was making excuses for indifferent performances.

One thing you cannot accuse him of his slacking on game day. Whilst he's not always confident (when he is he's a sight) he goes hard, he goes home. Developing him as a utility in the Jarrad Waite mould would just add another string to our bow. (I seriously hope I quoted the Carlton player I'm thinking of, but tired)

There's some pretty stiff competition in the forward line. He'll be competing for a spot against Post, Vickery, Taylor, and Griffith, and then i'll add to that a resting Grigg. Tho he might be tried as a taller King.

he was actually drafted as a forward. as was gourdis. there is no harm in trying these blokes in positions that are probably more natural to them.
gourdis in particu;lar based on his attributes would be hard to match up on if he played forward.

We know he gives a contest, whiich might come in haandy as a 3rd tall option

Sometimes giving a contest isnt good enough. Love his courage but hate his un disciplined acts. If he can fix those this year he'll finish top ten in the B&F. If not it will be straight to Coburg.

I have no doubt that gourdis is a foward but for some reason has never been played there at either coburg or richmond.

speed, agility, leap, athletisism kids got the lot except the kicking.
