The season started a month earlier than usual due to the 2000 Olympics being held in Sydney and we were treated to a cracker of a game where Melbourne defeated North Melbourne 145-120.

It was a game where we thought that James Cook was gonna be one of the recruits of the year off a 6 goal effort.

Barely seemed like 5 minutes had passed before a goal or a behind was kicked by either team.

A high quality game to watch.

Apart from the 2000 Preliminary Final, we've not seen a game between these 2 that have been as entertaining as this Round 2 game.

Upon doing some research, I discovered it was Brad Green's first game and what a game to have an initiation into the AFL.

Perhaps looking back, this game epitomised the entertainment that was the 2000 AFL Season.

That was also a foray into Wednesday or Thursday night football that was widely seen in the early stages of that season. There was also games on the Labor Day holiday Monday in Victoria, one of those games surprisingly involved Brisbane.
