Another dreadful effort.

IDGAF who was missing today what you measure a game on is the player out on the park, not those in the stands.

At the minute I question the mental toughness and resiliance of the current side.

I don't know if scoreboard pressure is in the Worsfold vocabulary but I dare say that there are several thousand dissapointed supporters who could spell it out to him.

When will the acts of desperation, the acts of mateship and support on the footy field, the one percenters and the inspirational bursts of brilliance come into play this season?

Whilst we wait for some sort of belated statement to emerge the brilliant team efforts of 2006 seem a distant memory.

It's not as black and white as you make it out to be.

We were superb for the 1st 4 - 5 games this year. Take out the caliber of Cousins, Kerr (2 weeks), Cox (for a few), Embley, Nicoski, Butler, Hansen... which team wouldn't struggle?

One thing that has finally come home to roost is our inaccuracy for goal. For the last 5 years, Worsfold has denied there is a problem. Now that we've lost a few, he say it is a problem.

West Coast. Number #1 club in the AFL in terms of denial. Doesn't suprise me. A winning brand of football is black and white, the execution is often the grey area.

Im not sure whether our little form slump started this early last year but IIRC we struggled against Geelong and Carlton then lost to Bulldogs @ Subi, Port at AAMI either side of the break and then struggled v Sydney @ Subi then lost to pies at the dome. Also struggled all day to beat the Hawks at the G when they were down. At that stage people were writing us off and by rd 17 we played our best game oif the year to destroy Adelaide and suddenly we were back in form.

I think if we can get our best team on the field we no doubt have the team to beat anyone when were up and going.

That with the possibly return of our extra gear and leader in Benny Cousins we are still in a decent position for a tilt at September.

Alot to look forward to that is for sure. We should not be counting down the days until messiah like events are to unfold. The current group need to make things happen right NOW.

Hard to make a tilt from ninth. Lose badly next week and the Eagles could be on the brink of losing a spot in the 8, it's that tight this year that you can't afford to slip up and at the moment the Eagles have lost 3 of the last 4.

We are only 1 game and percentage from ninth! Lose next week and the Eagles could be in the 8 on percentage only, thats how tight it is this year!!!

I know, it is a very nerve wrecking season - Saying that we are only 1 game and % from top spot too.

We have to win the rest of our home games as well as at least 2 away games somewhere along the line.

cant belive we lost to the sainters we reached rock bottom diddy

I totally agree. We just didnt want to play in the first half. It was embarrassing. To be honest - it was probably a lack of leadership. I know Braun tried his heart out in the first half and i cant fault the efforts of Hurn, Steinglein, and i guess Kerr after half time but we clearly lacked the likes of Embley, and most importantly Juddy and Cuz. They're not just our best players but have pride and would not just roll over and let the side get pumped like we did in the first half.

We needed somebody to stand up and nobody put their hand up.:thumbsd:

I am not giving up on the guys though - because there's still time to gather momentum and make a tilt for the flag.

On the bright side - i think it makes it easier for the match review pannel when it comes to players coming back from injury - Graham, Morton, LeCras, RoJo, and dare i say it, Rosa are on notice. They may have wasted their chance to play in another premiership side.

Agree with all that. In the second quarter they were like headless-chooks, really. Even if the coach is supposed to be running the 'strategic game plan', you still need an on-field leader to show the way, or maybe just bark sensible instructions. There was no-one to do that.

The same applies to the last quarter. It was there for the winning.

Yeah, I think a few guys got found out today.

Thought I might bump this after tonight's effort. We showed some great grit to get over GWS, and our efforts against the Hawks and Crows were amazing. Last year we had our moments- biggest one that springs to mind was Kennedy willing us on the the Prelim. when we were down. Tonight, as we've seen a few times with this group, when the going gets tough, our mental toughness is left wanting. We've had two horrendous finals performances in a row.
Do the scars stay with the group, or can something be done?

Simpson in his presser said we need to get players who perform consistently regarding toughness and hunger.
Maybe he sees it now.

He would have seen it for a while, probably fears his job security if he moves on any of the favourites of the boys club up stairs though.
