As for talking shit and waking up to reality I think you want to read what you said next as i'm pretty sure Knights does give a shit where we finish this year or otherwise he isn't the man to be coaching us!
He really doesn't care mate. Essendon could be 3-8 right now given we got up over the Pies and Blues by the absolute skin of our teeth, which means we'd be languishing in the bottom 4. Essendon could be 6-5 (or even 7-4) had the bombers had a bit more luck and consistency against the crows and even the kangas.

Do you see where this is going? We could be anywhere on the ladder. Sitting 3rd/4th wouldn't reflect our team's performance any worse than what 13th would. That's how tight the competition is. That is how up and down essendon's performances have been and simply looking at the ladder to determine how well we've perfomed doesn't tell him anything.

Sure he wants to play finals, but purely for the benefit of getting experience under the belts of the youngsters. So although Knights tries to win every match possible he views each loss with a philosophical viewpoint that the team is always improving always developing ... it's not one of "we've played like shit. we have got to cull players x, y and z and try youngsters". Players who have been getting dropped this year are simply making room for others returning from injury... i can think of few that have been dropped purely for a poor performance.
