With Mercuri out of favour with the Bombers and with alot of youth coming thru, could we find room for him on our list?

Maybe base payment + playing wages,as we did for Sav in his first year?

Or trade Diggers or S.Motlop for him ..

With Mercuris experience i would say he could be good for us?

Stop it mate!!!

Past it. Gone. Finished.

Will play for Carlton in 2004.

Mecuri is finished - to slow. He was a geat player. We have no need for him. We may as well get some kid in a high draft pick - you never know.

Still got one year to go on a pretty hefty salary. Remember that 5 year contract?

Not as easy as minimum base + match payments, unless Essendon pick up the slack... which they won't.

Not a chance. Too slow in terms of leg speed and hand to foot.

He's played his last AFL game. Even if out of contract I couldn't even see Carlton wanting him.

not a chance! we are not looking to recruit old players that have one maybe 2 years left in them. Part of the rebuilding phase is getting younger players at the club. If we're going to trade anyone we'd be looking to get someone in the 21-25yo age group

Two years ago, I would have jumped at the chance for Mercuri to play for the Roos. He was a wonderful footballer and the change of scenery would have done him some good. But now, he just looks tired and he just hasn't taken all the chances that Sheedy has given him to re-establish himself.

He's also 30ish which counts against him, and I can't see him having any leadership skills that would benefit our kids.

It's a shame...Mercuri could have become one of the best. Sadly, he never lived up to it.

Even the Bomber fans dont rate him anymore.According to their thread.

Any players on other lists that we would be interested in?

I know there is N.Brown(unfortunately too expensive)
N.Stevens--he is a victorian who might want to come home
Lamb(melb)--could help out Watt
Harford--Too slow and injury prone
Scotland--doesnt seem to be getting a go at pies
M.Nicks--could be good for us
Rawlings--Expensive and not big enough, maybe would want to join big brother
J.Hay--possibility
Bartel--could complement what we have
Mooney--Tried before,lacks discipline
Krakouer--let the tradition continue
Power--good player but now have J.Clayton and Harding
Robert Murphy--love him,would be great

Ahh, stuff it lets get Mick and Cory back?

these would be the only one's I'd pursue. All young, all fantastic players, obviously some more so than others. The only problem is who the F*ck do we give up to get them?!?! The only thing I'd do is trade our first pick and fringe player or our first pick and our second pick

N.Stevens - ohhhhhhhhhhh my god, our midfield would rock with him in there. What is he? 23? and ripping it up as Port's no.1 midfielder (minus francou)...would definately get him aboard, but would definately be a set back for our developing midfielders and our midfield is our strength as it is.

Lamb - fantastic FB and same age as Watt (and taken in the same draft), out of favour at Melbourne. Should definately pursue him, but that would definately squeeze out Brown from Defence, and with the forward line looking pretty packed in the talls area could find himself out of a position

Hay - Oooooooooooohhhhhhhh my god. All Australian, highly under-rated by Hawthorn supporters. He (and Barker) are the reason they did so well a couple of years ago. The perfect full back, keeps top backmen totally stone silent (when unfit) and provides drive (when fit) see lamb for Brown consequences tho

Bartel - fantastic junior footballer, could easily fit into our young crop of midfielders and provide even more competition into the white hot couldron that is our midfield

Power - see Bartel and Stevens

Murphy - Would give an arm to get him over. Would definately spell the end of Makepeace. I don't care what it spells for our current players. This boy is the best thing that the Bulldog's have ever produced. Ohhhhhhhhh if he'd come to North.. oh ...oh....ohhh I can't ............ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

What about
N.Brown?
Scotland?
Rawlings?
Krakouer?

I would give up Makepeace,Teague and 1st round draft pick for
Murphy...

Teague or Morrel for Lamb--straight sawp

our old coach is know for picking Essendon Reserves players he coached in the 1992 seaon (Olarenshaw and Calthorpe), so Mercuri might be in pagan plans.

Mercuri 2003 and beyond ............pffft !
Same goes with Harford

I agree wholeheartedly with Groucho's comments

I think someone like Harford has still got some footy in him (only 26), but probably needs to go to a side with a poor midfield to do well.

No matter how bad sides get belted, they still get their 220-250 possessions a week - and it's gotta go to someone. Slot Harford into the Carlton midfield, and he'd get 20 touches a week. Slot him in at North and he won't get a nibble because of the presence of Simmo, Boomer, Stevo, etc.

Another club WILL take him.

That's it......I agree, my pffft ! reaction is whether they will do anything for North. Slot 'em onto Carlton's shopping list and you'll know they may slightly improve (on paper anyway:p )

Harford is only 26 ! doesn't matter...good for the Bullies & Carlton

no Mercuri would have to be sacked and forced to retire. He doesn't have his heart in footy anymore. Personal tragedies have taken their toll. A real shame - I rated him the best player at Essendon a few years ago.

He should force Essendon to pay him out.
