Michael Hurley Arrested

Michael is a 19 year old kid who has made 1 mistake (although it was a pretty big one). Fevola is a 28 year old man who should have learnt from the huge number of massive mistakes he has made by now. How many more chances does Carlton need to give Fevola???

What a tosser. How on earth can you call a criminal offence where there are injuries to an innocent person a mistake?

You have to have a bad streak it in you to do it. More to come from this piece of crap I would say.

As for Fev, he is a NOB, a tool, a clown and a bad drunk. Not a criminal. We have all had our own times on the grog we wish we could re-live. So I guess there is a bit of a nob in all of us.

I doubt there is a bit of a thug criminal in all of us.

(Disclaimer - The above opinion only holds if HURLEY actually has committed the offence he is accused of. If he is found to be innocent I retract my statement and apologise. Fev however will still be a NOB. Love him though.)

Don't forget Fev assaulted an Irish barman whilst representing his country.

However, Hurley's actions will be taken very seriously also, don't forget Brumby's trying to promote Austraia as a safe place for Indian students and now that the Indians have heard of this assault by Hurley, they've already started pasting it all over their media.

It really looks bad for not only our sport but also our country and although Hurley would be deeply remorseful, he has shown that he might be letting his fame get to his head and starting to think he is untouchable.

Everybody's remorseful once they've sobered up but once they get on the piss again they cannot control themselves and they do stupid things that they normally wouldn't do.

IMO the AFL need to really start clamping down on the drinking issues if they want their image to be that of a great sporting environment and promotion of our country, because if they don't then incidents like this will continue to happen and it will only further tarnish the AFLs reputation.

Perhaps not as bad as Fev (except Fev is on strike 6) but if true he broke the law as well as being morally wrong. But do you give this guy a light penalty and wait for him to gradually offend worse and worse as he becomes a bigger and bigger star? Or do you sack him (once the facts are established and beyond dispute) and say to everyone else playing or going to play that we dont tolerate this any more. Enough! Believe me he wont be missed. Remember Oliver? No I didnt think so, but at the time I remember wishing he would just play, he was supposed to be that good. No matter how good a player is, if he is gone we move on. Once we get that attitude in our game, we wont have these issues but for as long as we decide that players are too important to lose and we therefore will suspend our better judgment for them and let them slide on things then they will keep doing these things. And I dont care how good they are or how well behaved they have been. One strike and you are gone. Period.

My god - how long ago would Fev have been gone??????????????

THE Indian taxi driver allegedly attacked by Essendon footballer Michael Hurley has stopped work because he feels depressed.

Hurley is expected to be charged for allegedly assaulting Onkar Singh Bains during a boozy night after The Footy Show finale.

Mr Bains, who allegedly had his turban knocked to the ground in the incident, said he had been asked by police not to speak to the media about the altercation over between the two men which allegedly took over a fare at the Hoddle St Hungry Jacks at 5.30am yesterday.

``I have given a five page statement to the police,'' he said. ``I am not driving today. I am feeling depressed.''

Yesterday, Premier John Brumby called on Hurley to apologise for the incident but yesterday Mr Singh Bain said neither Hurley nor anyone from Essendon had contacted him.

``There has been no apology,'' he said.

Hurley's father Damian said ``it remains to be seen if he has anything to apologise about".

Speaking at his Rosanna home this morning,Mr Hurley his son would not be making any statement on legal advice.

Hurley, a key position player and a Rising Star nominee, was released from Fitzroy police station yesterday after being arrested at a Richmond fast-food store about 5.30am.

The Herald Sun believes Hurley, 19, had been drinking at The Footy Show Grand Final after-party before leaving with a group of young players to go to a South Melbourne nightclub.

He was picked up by a cab at Seven nightclub in South Melbourne, which stopped at the Hungry Jack's in Hoddle St.

It is alleged the cab driver followed Hurley from the car and asked for his fare, an argument broke out and Hurley kicked him in the groin and punched him. The taxi driver had minor injuries.

Police arrested Hurley in the restaurant car park and took him to Fitzroy police station.

Later club officials took him out a side exit as football manager Paul Hamilton spoke to media at the front.

In a statement, Essendon managing director Peter Jackson said: "We are extremely disappointed that Michael was out so late and that he put himself in a situation where an incident occurred.

"He started drinking at the Grand Final Footy Show after-party and by night's end he had clearly had too much to drink.

"We work with our players to help them make good choices and the vast majority do, so it's disappointing and unacceptable.

"We are treating the matter very seriously and will take appropriate action once the details are clear. The club will continue speaking with Michael and he will assist police any way he can."

Hurley's alleged actions came after Carlton's Brendan Fevola's drunken antics during and after the Brownlow Medal count.

Hurley was Essendon's first pick in last year's national draft, at selection five overall.

"Big and composed, he appears to be a 10-year key position player," the club's website says.

In India, where he is trying to hose down outrage over attacks on Indian students in Melbourne, Premier John Brumby said he had spoken with the AFL and Essendon Football Club, and understood Hurley and his parents were deeply remorseful.

That's it, kicking a man in the groin is the ultimate 'dog act' (unless your a woman :D)
