Seems to me outside speed and skill in our midfield is pretty poor. Our inside ball winning is elite, but then we have Hill of real quality on the outside, but not much else.

Mzungu was ok on the weekend, and should stay in. D Pearce was shitful yet again. And after them, there is really not much.
The midfield balance is probably needing a tweak towards outside class. Out Suban - In Weller would be a good start, give the kid the rest of the season to find his feet.

MDB is a handy inside extractor , but he's our 5th best inside extractor, so out DeBoer - In Crozier.

A quality player to perform the role that D Pearce has failed at abjectly this season would be great too, but Mora's busy

How about throwing Sutcliffe into the mix? better foot skills than all of our midfielders except Hill and Mundy and always looks good receiving the ball on the outside. Also don't think he's much chop defending (not terrible, just average) and that someone like Brady Gray could be blooded there instead. Also, with offensive midfielders on other teams getting on top of us lately and with unsociable players seemingly riling up our our guns it would be nice to have Ryan Crowley back in as soon as possible.

OTC made mention of how Hawthorn have so many different centre bounce combinations(helps that they kick so many ****ing goals).

I think I heard some where this week that RTB might give ballas a run through the guts this week, can't hurt to see what happens.

A lot of posters have said we are just way to predictable at centre bounces, which looks to be true now.

OTC also showed footage that the hawks manned up our mids at centre bounces a lot too on Sunday.
Clarko is such a gun coach!

Two many people sittings too close to the ruck is the issue in my opinion. If they get the ball they can do no damage, while the opposition has outliers that can break away from the pack.

I noticed the Hawks used Mitchell or Hodge as a quarter back, give them a clear person on the defensive side of the pack which all stops any clear break a ways. This forces us to rush kicks which is why so many balls went to an unmanned opposition.

I would like to see Sandi do 10+m taps 10-20% of the time to force the opposition players to spread more and then we need more people on the outside as well.

Unfortuntely Ross doesn't like too much change!

Weller and Blakely will probably get games when he rests the team. He won't play them in finals even if do a better job than Suban as he works on probabilities. More experience = greater chance of performing under pressure.

You mentioned the two obvious problems. Where other sides fill their midfield with weapons, we continue to burden ourselves by filling the last two spots with Suban and De Boer who offer nothing offensively.

Pearce was very, very good in the opening games of the season.

Pearce might be more useful as a small forward? Doesn't seem to give the spread and speed on the outside that we need. And fills his pants in big games obviously

He needs to be rested, one of those players who can't handle a whole season. Can't remember the last time he missed a game.

The Port game in round 1 was huge. Had the build up of a final and the intensity of a final. Pearce made the difference in that game. I marked him as best or second best on ground.

Yeah but Port are shit this year.

They were very good against Freo and Hawthorn. Have been inconsistent in most other games.

This is it for me too. Add to that the fact that Fyfe is so dominate and it makes it easy to predict who is going to win the ball and it's simply a matter of applying enough pressure to force a rushed, dirty inside 50.

Our forwards always seem to be caught on the back foot and with their plus one sitting in the hole it's an easy rebound 50 for them and we are caught out rushing forward.

Spread the players at the centre clearance so that it's more 1v1 and go to Fyfe less often. When we do go to him he'll beat anyone 1v1. Just mix it up a bit!

I also think we need to take the tackle in that situation more often rather than slapping the ball on the boot in hope. Our forwards aren't dominate enough for that to work with their extra number(s) back. Take the tackle, reset and try for a cleaner exit the next time. I think this is being exacerbated by Ross's instructions for quick decision making and people are acting instinctively rather than thinking their way through it.

If we must rush kick it forward at least aim for a flank where their extra numbers are less likely to be able to pick it off and we can force a throw in the again reset.

Slow the game right down and get it in our terms much like the Hawks did to the Cats in 2008.

Just not consistent, and go missing when Faye and co struggle. We need him to fire when other not. Only hope is other team don't put pressure on him so his kicking is accurate.

Our midfield in the last few weeks has started to remind me of the west coast midfield under priddis control. Get ball, bomb it forward. Early on in the season it was get ball, pass to an outsider and run it forward then kick.
