If we are to become a successful club, I believe our midfielders need to start backing themselves to have a shot on goal when they can easily carry the ball to the fifty at least.
Lids and Foley can kick these goals and both had the opportunity to do so last night. Instead they chose a marking contest where our forwards weren’t in the best position they were out bodied and the ball was easily taken out of a forward line. I’m not saying it wasn’t the right thing to do, but with our forward line problems atm…we need to start looking at other ways of scoring. Good teams have scoring contributions from there mid fielders. This benefits the forward line especially when they are having a quiet period and also frustrates opposition defenders.

Cotchin, Foley and Cousins can all kick goals from the midfield while Tuck and Deledio have both had some success resting in the goal square.

They just don't do it enough. Morton is fast becoming a predictable route to goal.

Ps: I do love see McGuane getting up there from the side from time to time though :thumbsu:

I also like the mcguane move, he has a really good set of hands

If jordon McMahon is going to be at Richmond next year then that is where his future will lie. The new coach will not want a bar of him down back turning the ball over.

McMahon can kick 50m off one step and is a great shot from 50 out. It's time to play him by his strengths. A soft outside player that can kick long goals when he gets on his own and give us score board pressure. Not a defender that can't be accountable for his player and one who turns it over all the time.

Bowden is the same. Maybe we play Bowden on the wing as well.

I agree with newman playing forward because:
  • I am almost certain he won't get outmarked
  • He can easily kick it 60m
  • He would kick 9/10 from outside 50
  • When he is on his tackles are great
  • He is one of the fastest in our team (remember his chase down in IR couple of years back)
  • He can take a good mark
But if he goes forward who is going to be our rebounder bowden is out aswell and moore isnt in form ATM so as much i would love to see him up forward kicked a couple each week i dont think it will happen

I agree but.................Team rules?

A few weeks ago a certain forward went against team rules and was crucified for doing so.

Can't have it both ways:(
