I think he should become more like a Steve Johnson style player.

Stick the half forward line and be able to drift into the midfield when needed. I don't want him to become a diver and little cheat like Johnson though

He's becoming (has already?) the new Nathan Brown. Plays on for shot at goal rather than taking a set shot, good short burst speed, can turn players inside out.
But has the advantage that has learnt to chase and tackle IMO (tho have seen many comments to the contrary)
Downside is lack of capability to drift into midfield / half-back and have effect, unlike Browny. If we are relying on Browny to "seek" the action down back, then the back has someway to go. So thats less important.

I like him close to goals, very lively and adds an element of danger to the forward line.

i agree. can prove to be a handful when he is in form. i dont know if anyone else has said this but he is the best snapper in the competition. plays on all the time from the boundary and never misses his snaps. love him. could be a leading forward up the ground as he has good skills which means good delivery to the forwards.

as a few have said he plays dangerous football in forward and kicks himself few goals a game for the team.
he should stay a forward player because he can create magic.

I like Mitch but his spot in the team will come under increasing pressure when Cotch and Cousins are fit. It will keep him honest, that's for sure.
his spot is the most safe in the forward line, although things can change. and as someone else they are mids and will not take mitches spot.

I think the club will want to develop him into a similar player that Ryan O'Keefe is. Playing the lead up half-forward is probably the most difficult position on the ground. O'Keefe is probably the best exponent of this position currently playing the game. That is why I was so surprised that Hawthorn didn't cough up their 1st round draft pick for him. He could have helped them win another flag.

Morton is what they had hoped Pettifer could be but Pettifer could just never be stuffed.

The good thing about Morton - great kicking skills and a very good mark. Against North he took some very nice marks and used it quite well when he had it.

I heard Tommy Hafey once on after-match radio - they had the interview with some player (might even have been Nick Daffy) - the player had said the usual - 'Happy to play half-forward - looking to move into the midfield'.

After the player had signed off, Hafey exploded. Said basically 'Why do they all want to pick up easy kicks in the midfield? A good goal-kicking half-forward is a much rarer, more valuable player. Mid-field ball-getting skills are not the same as forward-line goal scoring skills.'

I am happy for Morton to remain a permanent forward - he seems to do it well. He doesn't offer anything over and above what any of our other guys can do in the midfield.

For the same reason, I don't care whether Brown goes into the midfield or not.

you cant keep him there during his whole career, give him a year playing in the backline, or on the wing.

Of course you can, if it ain't broke done fix it. He kicked the 2nd most goals for us last year i think or 3rd so why put him at half back
if you keep him there every game every year, he will come in to a rut and he needs to go to a different position to work back some form.
