I thought us winning with Mitch Morton struggling for a game would be seen as a good thing. If Jacko and Tuck were both out this week he'd get picked . Simple as that.

Big day AMCRE??? You've hit the ground running!
I reckon Mitch will come back firing when the younger blokes wear out abit.

I just think it is rubbish that the guy played the best footy of his career last year and then had a great pre season....then he comes back into the side and is asked to hold down a KPF role at FF with Jack. He shouldn't be asked to be the main target but instead is the 4th tall/crumber who can rotate onto the wing. If Hardwick gives him a chance in the role he should actually play then I think he will do very well. As for his defensive side I don't think it's as bad as some state. Plus if you look at a side like Collingwood although they are great defensively there are obviously players who are offensive in nature like Didak.

One of this seasons (so far) biggest disappointments for me... along with Taylor ****ing off again.

Players with real ability who for whatever reason are not able to 'get with the program'.

Morton should be the perfect foil for Jack & eventially Griff up forward, if only he could get his mind on the game (going both ways) 100% of the time.

I hope to God he has not spat the dummy after being dropped earlier.

I remember reading that when we were trading for Grigg at the end of last year. Carlton asked for one of three players, Collins, Connors and Morton. (Not sure how true this is).

For whatever reason, I feel we'll be quite active during trade week at the end of this season and that players who are lazy/not team orientated will be on the chopping block. Irrespective of how talented they are.

Is he potential trade bait?

Morton + 3rd Round pick to the Crowbots for Maric (an ideal replacement for Porps' shoulder)!

He's probably in our best 22, but he's not close to reaching his potential due to his poor work rate.

So, do you pick him because he's "best-22", or do you put him down to Coburg and try and make him a better player? Coaching staff seems to think the second option is the way to go, and I agree.

A long way to go before he breaks through as an emergency ahead of Webberley, Post, Helbig (who's shown some great signs for a debutant), Griffiths and Moore (in the coming weeks).

Isn't it ironic that all Morton brothers (all high draft picks) have failed to take their football to the next level. Cale has gone backward at the Dees, from all report's I've read, Mitch is really struggled and the I'm fairly sure the Whorethorn Morton was delisted.

Have no idea if its true or not. Think I would have preffered to trade morton before collins. but either way cant complain. girgg has been excellent.

I agree, think we could be quite active during trade week. Have a feeling the aints will make a play for tuck and/or morton. hmm mayb make a possible trade thread haha

I would definitely like to see Morton in our side, cause he has an X factor I reckon. But the plain fact is that when he was in early rounds he didn't work hard enough... It's all about forward pressure now isn't it! Matt White, Nahas and King absolutely work their rings off every week, meaning for the minute it's gonna be tough for Mitch to make his way back into the side.

Ok, I had an extremely vivid dream last night where I got a chance to chat to Mitch one on one in a casual setting.

I heard from someone that Mitch was sitting in a stationary train on his own, so decided to go in and have a word. I asked him why he wasn't in the senior team at the moment, I think he said he didn't know, maybe he wasn't working hard enough. Then I asked him if he liked playing on the wing, to which he replied "No I hate it. Dimma wanted me to play there but I hated the idea. I much prefer it up forward." I was a little surprised and so asked him how come he started mostly up forward this year and he said it was because he hated the midfield so much.

I then talked about how much Nahas, King and Whitey have improved and how now that we have a great group intent on forwardline pressure and inside play, we need a bit of silk and class to top our side off, and suggested that this should be him. He was very quiet. I said I'd hate for him to get disgruntled with the club because it'd be a shame to lose a player of his talent to elsewhere. He was very not committal, and gave me the impression he wanted to leave.

Then... we were on a trampoline. I think there were more questions on the train but I can't remember them. I asked him about my pet interest, David Gourdis. I made him guess who my favourite Richmond players were. He didn't guess the Goo. I described how intrigued I was by Gourdis' path, from being rated a first round pick to dropping to us in PSD, then his time at the club. Mitch agreed with me about everything and said he wasn't sure of David's story but just that he was pretty quiet and thinks he's still battling with depression.

Then had one more question, about Troy Taylor. I said "he's not coming back is he?" Mitch said "What? No way, he's been gone for more than 2 months." "But he's not coming back?" I asked. Mitch then went on to say that TT had serious social problems and that it was virtually impossible for anyone to have a conversation with him without him insulting them or saying something rude. He said it was a battle living with him. I said I saw an interview with TT where he said Morton was one of his best friends at the club (which is true) to which Mitch just shook his head. I then asked if he was living with his brother Cale, but he said it was Jarryd, even though I'm pretty sure it's Cale in real life.

And that's all I remember. Fairly sure none of it is accurate in reality, but if anyone wants to read anything into it go ahead, particularly the symbolism of the train and trampoline

Would have him over Edwards any day. Makes our team look a lot better.

Wholeheartedly agree. Not a knock on Edwards but he is playing around the same role Morton was playing in the second half of last season and I reckon on what Morton showed he was better at it. Someone said Morton has little core strength but that is not true. Might not be the quickest but seems to have endurance.

We are clearly a lesser side without Morton in it and as he is (well I hope) a part of our future going forward he should be getting games ahead of Nason, Helbig or Miller. Again, not a knock on Miller but im not sure how long he is going to be around for.

Morton can be mercurial when on his game and would be the perfect foil for Jack Reiwoldt. Just look at how well he presented against the Saints. I cant believe Dimma cant see that. I wish Morton was back in the team, but even more I wish we knew why he wasnt!!!!!

Some bloke called Richo went alright too ;)

Good post :thumbsu:

I have a different take on this.
Mitch should be absolutely ashamed of himself. Ashamed for letting a smalll defensive forward like Jake King with very little natural ability to overtake him. Ashamed that Jake King has worked his backside of to get into the team and then keep himself in the team and then work harder to be an intregal part of the team.
While Mitch wallows at Coburg.
Weak as piss.
Mitch has more talent than Jake has in his ring finger. But talent alone doesn't cut it.
We can spruke all we like about how Mitch should be pushing into the midfield, but he hasn't done it. He is a small/medium forward, just like Jake King.
If he doesn't realise all this now, then he should be made to find a new home at the end of the season, and I think the chances have run out to find a new AFL home.
Not good enough.

The voice of reason. :thumbsu:

One thing that no one has mentioned is the possibility that he might have already signed with GWS and that this is how we are going to treat him???
Not saying its the case, just throwing in a curve ball to the discussion.

IMO Morton is in our top 10 players and should just be played as a HFF or forward pocket with stints on the wing.... No team has 22 players all working hard defensively, and I know we definately do not...

that's a pretty unfair way to look at it tugg, insulting to kingy. He needen't be drawn into it. i still maintain that MM appears to be marked considerably harder than quite a few others, why did edwards make so many elementary errors that were overlooked due to confidence that he would overcome them...I say Mm should be afforded same, he offers the side what we don't have that is a rare bit of class in the front half, aside from JR8 and his blue collar able bodied assistants
