Since converting to Islam, this guy has become arguably the best batsman in the world.

Always knew he had the game, temperament was in question. Seems Islam's strict mentality has benefited his cricket enormously...now he is producing regularly in crunch situations and has really taken on the role of senior batsman that Pakistan needed him to be.

Since his conversion, he is averaging 89.83 from 12* Tests (currently propping up Pakistan's first innings against Windies on 152*) with 7 hundreds and 3 fifties.

Simply unbelievable stats. He has hammered England, who arguably have the best pace attack in the world currently.

Great player to watch too. :thumbsu:

Always liked him before his conversion but he is in amazing form now. Probably doesn't get mentioned as often as with other bigger names but he is batting better than anybody at the moment.

"Best batsman in the world"? England "best pace attack in the world"?

LOL

Brought up on flat decks in Pakistan, struggles big time on juicey wickets. Also looked clueless against the spin of Monty in winter.

"spin" "monty" what

He's a complete bastard to get out when he's set at the moment. He just makes everything look so easy.

Definitely the batsman who's had the most success against England over the last 3 or 4 years.

Good form or not, I'm glad we've seen the back of him for a little while.

He's the best batsman in Test cricket or perhaps world cricket right now

The best driver of the ball in the world, an absolute joy to watch. Poetry in motion

Contrary to popular belief, always thought he struggles against spin particularly when the ball turns away from him. He's looked clueless against Shane Warne and Macgill most of the time and Monty tied him up nicely.

Last 10 tests, including current one:
- 1538 runs @ 102.53, 7 100s, 2 50s which includes 2 doubles, 192 twice, a 97 and a 48

1315 runs for 2006 with 6 100s, 17th best calendar year already with 2.5 tests still to go.
- 1 more century to equal Viv and Aravinda for most in a calendar year
- 93 more runs to go 6th all time (runs in a calendar year)

1000_RUNS_IN_CALENDAR_YEAR

Apart from two innings where quite frankly anyone decent should've made double centuries against England coz their attack was so ********, Smith has been ordinary against England particularly when the Poms won that Test series at South Africa

Still a good effort though he was only 22 and had just been made captain and Flintoff and co. were still good bowlers even if they didn't bowl at their best and in South Africa against them he defied doctors to make 60 something not out when the rest of the team fell when he had concussion. And for that matter Ponting made a lot of runs against some crappy attacks last year and had quite a good deal of luck along the way between ordinary fielding efforts and umpires giving him the benefit of the doubt on a number of occasions that I can recall.

I like Yousef or whatever he calls himself though he is a really smooth batsman with a wristy style and he can score quickly when he wants to.
