"The West Coast Eagles have today elevated rookie Murray Newman to the senior list in place of key defender Mitch Brown, who has joined the long term injury list.

The decision to elevate Newman means the tenacious forward could be in line for a surprise return to senior football against Sydney on Sunday."

The forgotten talent on our list. Would love him to break into the team this year as we definitely need some of his pace, skills and class in our team - especially at Selwood's expense.

Must be a chance this week given the elevation. Maybe hill won't get up or is set to be dropped ?

I'd Love nothing better than to have Newman in the side but don't know who would go to accommodate him...Selwood reads the play much better and is a proven mid so it's hard to see him going and the only other possibility is Hill who has also earned his place and would be dead unlucky to miss out. On the other hand, Hill did have an injury last week so maybe Newman has been picked to replace him if he can't play.

Didn't Newman kick 1 or 2 against the Swans in 2012? Simmo's playing the percentages.

I'm not up to speed with the latest rookie list rules. Is there some cut-off period for elevation that expires this week?

If not, I'd say Hill is injured and Newman will play.

There was a cut off period during the season to promote rookies . This may be the case for West coast promoting Murray plus it gives him xtra confidence and incentive .

There used to be a cut-off of Rd 11 for upgrading one rookie without needing to send a player to the LTI - that is not the case in this instance.

The timing is very interesting.

I can't be bothered looking but in regards to LTI's is there some quirk there where the 8 weeks must be during the season? Because if so we are guaranteed 1 final as it stands 7 remaining home and away + 1 final = 8 weeks thus meaning we can elevate one and brown can still potentially be back for round 1?

Seem to remember this happen to Brad Dick a few years back , he was in alright form , randomly got elevated , everyone got excited he was going to play that week and then he wasn't even named a emeregncey :(
