All the talk of jumper changes made me think of a tangent. Has any club at any point ever had names on the backs?

Would you be generally for/against that?

I guess it isn't really necessary, particularly if you know who is who already. Historically guernseys don't have them, so maybe it would represent a break of tradition.

I'd be for it.

I'd also allow certain players have a space for their own sponsorship, instead of bleeding clubs and their supporters dry.

Take Carey for example - he could rent out his space, pay his own wages and Nporth would have no problems at all !

It would be a big help for all the Melbourne supporters

Instead of yelling out "Go in hard number 22",they could yell out" Go in hard Woewodin"

All it might do is make guernseys with individual numbers and names more appealing for supporters to buy in the shops. I doubt anyone in the stadiums or watching on tv would be able to read the names much because unlike gridiron there isn't a closeup shot on a player every six seconds.

I've got a feeling that they either do or did have their names on their jumpers in the WAFL.

It's a great idea especially to help recognise some of the opposition players.

I like the idea of knowing exactly which opposition player my pie has just landed on.

do you people not know your team at all
god when i was 12-13 i new every single player without looking at their jumper

OK, kangas biggest fan, that accounts for last year...

Anyone remember when Geelong had the players' numbers on the front of their shorts? Must have been around 1978 or 79. Good idea, I thought at the time. VFL didn't though.

ive always thought this was a good idea- i mean sure everyone knows their own players, but I dont know the numbers of every player in the entire league. Maybe once the AFL gets all this money from Mr Packer & Co., the AFL wont need to sell footy records quite so badly, so they might approve it.

yeah.. not a bad idea... i'd be for it...

i agree with the person that said it probably sell alot more guernseys and crap like that...

they even have numbers & names on the backs of one-day cricket uniforms! hahah... is this really necessary?? its not like those cricket players run around alot, and confuse spectators... they wear plain white in tests, and is it that hard to tell who is who?

If were going to put names on the jumpers we might as well do it XFL style. Instead of their actual names, players can put any names they want, much like a nickname.

Names such as "He hate me", "Hit squad" and "Hurricane" would be great.

Never minding the fact that every sports fan in the USA has been making fun of the XFL for putting nicknames on their players' shirts. Even XFL fans are embarrassed by the poor grammar in "He Hate Me".
