How do I actually connect to Live, I have been to EB and Dick Smith and both places where hopeless. I have the new BigPond Wireless modem with Ethernet, the dude from Dick Smith said I can just get a router because it cant roam on the same frequency, he said I have to ubplug my whole internet connection and take it to my 360, what a crock of shit.

Anyone help with it please???

Its got a spare USB connection, can I just go to Dick Smith and get like a 10 metre cord and connect it to the 360??

Also, do I need to purchase a Live Gold or Silver membership?? or do I get the first month for free?? I just want to know as I am wanting to connect today and get it running.

If you have a wireless router, just by the wireless adapter for the 360 off the internet. If you bought it in the shops they are like 200 dollars but if you buy on Ebay, etc, they are like 100 dollars cheaper.

You need ethernet cable, not USB cable, if you want to use wires to connect your Xbox. You may also need a hub.

What a crock of shit to connect to Live, they couldnt make it any easier could they. Hopeless.

Its an absolute piece of piss mate, really simple.

If you're already on the net with a BB connection, forget usb cables or anything, you need an ethernet cable.

-Insert ethernet cable into ethernet port of 360
-Insert ethernet cable into free port on modem
-Turn on 360
-Hit "connect to xbox live" on the dash
-Follow the prompts

Its that simple

You'll need to fill in some details, if you have a pre paid card, you'll be asked to enter the code on it. If you don't, you can pay by CC using the 360 interface.

Silver is free, and gives you access to demos, videos, game updates etc.

Gold is like 79 bucks a year and allows you to play online multiplayer as well

My advice is not to use a the optional wireless dongle, many who have get some lag issues. Online gaming is always a better experience over ethernet imo.

I personally havent had any lag problems with the wireless adaptor (in aussie games), but maybe I'm just lucky. That being said if you can go ethernet, do it, its cheaper and better. I went wireless because I couldnt drag ethernet cable all over the house

I have the new Wireless Telstra BB modem, it has only 1 Ethernet plug and that is taken for the computer, the only spare connection I have is the USB. So it looks like I have to fork out the $169 for the wireless thing from EB and then purchase the Live gold card.

I bought my xbox live sub for $50 off ebay.

There you go.

I would buy a good ADSL modem/router combo for not much more than the xbox wireless thing. Or you could use the USB for your computer, and use the ethernet for the xbox.

I'd just unplug the comp and plug in your 360. Unless you have a very fast connection, if someone is using the net on the computer while you're playing online, it can get pretty ugly.

Either that or buy a 4 port modem, non wireless ones are under 100 bucks. Cheaper way to go about things. If you need wireless for other things a Billion 4 port wireless modem is like 110 bucks

If you have multiple devices hooked up to your internet connection you're always gonna need a multi port modem anyway, so its not a bad investment

I just use a cheapy network switch similar to this -

Just plug the modem output in, then plug your pc's, xbox and whatever in, and away you go.
