"The new rule allows clubs who have spent under 100 per cent of the cap in the past two seasons to spend up to a maximum of five per cent over it in 2016.
AFL.com.au understands Richmond and St Kilda are among the clubs in the position to take advantage of the new rule that was introduced as part of the AFL's competitive balance policy.
With the cap of $10.071 million, the rule means clubs that qualify and are able to afford the extra money will potentially have an extra $500,000 to spend on players"

War chest confirmed. We've been under the the max salary cap in the last 2 years and because of that with this new rule we can add up to $500k more space ontop of the current max. Meaning if we're somewhere in the region of 300-400k below it this year we'll have almost an extra $1 million of cap space for next year. Huge.
We definitely have the space for one of Motlop/Trealor + Yarran with minimal to no effect on other contracts at all. This makes me happy.
