Is this guy going to be a selection to fill the Holland position in 2005? as of yesterday afternoon, i don't want that lemon in the team...

Don't worry, Holland will be delisted at the end of 2005.

It's inevitable.

2005 !! meanwhile he will get his 350 grand next year and the club sacrifices any trade oppurtunities. The guy better not get a game with the first 22 next year.

People have jumped off the bandwagon very quickly again. With Neitz in the team, Holland still has some value as a third tall, as he proved a few times this year. However, as a major forward he struggles.

Kicked 21.18 goals in 21 matches, so a goal a match. 62 marks and 55 hitouts. Got 10+ possessions 7 times, including a stellar three week period where he got 55 possessions and 7 goals. Although not brilliant stats, they are okay. He provided another option to Neitz, which worked well quite often. There were some good games and some bad ones. I don't think we should write him off yet, but definately give him another chance in 2005.

yeah i agree with you shev, well said. people have bagged holland all season long and i think it has been unfair criticism. he has not had the role of be the main target and kick 10 goals. he is a second or third avenue to goal and i think he has done ok. he has struggled some games but he has had good ones too, particularly the game against the saints where he kicked 4.1. he has been heavily criticised for his game on the weekend but i dont know too many players who can set a game on fire when they are pushed or pulled out of every contest.
next year i think he should be played at centre half forward instead of miller and have miller and robbo on the forward flanks to lead up the wings and then centre it into holland, who has such a strong pair of hands, or kick it further to neitz. what are your thoughts on that shev?

I don't know about that, I'd like to keep Miller at centre half forward and try to develop the team around him. Next year, Holland should be fighting for his spot with Nick Smith if all goes to plan.

Holland may have been a fill-in - Smith may well be a long term goalkicking proposition, eventually to replace DN at FF.

Needs

- preseason without glandular fever
- patience for at least half the season to get the pace of the game - after all, Holland was given plenty of patience as an unproductive decoy - Smith could do no worse.

Smith is a very good contested mark and not a bad kick - certal=inly a far better kick than Holland, then few aren't.

I am hoping that Smithy can play Holland's role right from the start, playing as the third tall after Neitz and Miller. Then after a couple of years take over from the skipper and make full forward his own. That's probably what we could best hope for, although things don't always go to plan.

Holland will still be a demon in 2005.......unfortunately! If Smith can get a solid pre -season in then he'll be ready to go. Watch for him in 2006 though, and then say goodbye to 'Dutchy'
