Ahead of the Derby, I think it's time to give this guy a toast for his year so far.

His game against Essendon, espcially in the 1st half was very good, and he is definately on track to be one of the most dominant players in the comp in a few years time.

More credit should be given for him even playing yesterday. He's very close to Luke Adams, and I can't imagine playing a game of footy that well while one of your best mates in on his death bed. Although sometimes stuff like this makes you play better.

He is also playing with 1 shoulder.

Sick of the criticism he gets. People think far more today about a player's negatives rather than their positives.

Some reason Rich gets such a harsh gig. People concentrate on what he does bad rather than what he dominates at.

I reckon that Gerard Healy was describing it well yesterday, people seem to be very happy to highlight what he can't do, rather than look at the extraordinary things he can do.

Couldn't agree more.

NicNat's in his third season of AFL footy and is a best 22 player.

We really need to focus on what he does and doesn't do, rather than what he can and can't.

Some of his tap work and second & third efforts at ground level are extraordinary and we should recognise that. He also floats in an out of games too much and his kicking leaves a bit to be desired, so we shouldn't gloss over that.

It's annoying because people say what he can't do more than any other player and they probably hear it from ignorant commentators who seem to think we took from a hidden jungle in Fiji. When other young rucks like Jacobs, Goldstein, Roughead etc make a mistake by dropping a mark or shanking a kick it's because he's a 'young developing ruckman', when Nic does the same thing they say 'well he's still got a lot to learn about
football'. Absolute crap.

The footy media has an obsession with Mumford and Jamar, and Nic is averaging more touches, clearances, inside 50s and UNCONTESTED:eek: possessions. He is averaging 0.5 less marks a game, which is great considering I know what it's like playing with an unstable shoulder. For a 21 year old ruck that's 2 metres plus he's going very, very well.

Yer I am surprised that there is little said about his rucking. I think his tapwork is fantastic.

I was just about to mention that :)

Had to quote you, I can't agree more.
NN is already a good ruckman, wins more taps than not, but for some reason everyone expects him to do Juddesque things in every game or else he's "still go a lot to learn about".

Nicknat could be one of the best EVER.

His chase-downs are out of this world & often lead to scoring opportunities for us.

He's got more versatility than most.

He's great offensively but suspect defensively which is fair enough given his short time in the game and where he's spent most of his development time.

So happy we got him. :D

Developing very well and showing that brilliance more and more on a consistent basis.

Also doing those small little things you don't notice really, but those who are really observant can. Prime example would be him spoiling sandilands instead of marking it. Was pointed out by the commentators and for a good reason, any other time he would have gone up for mark of the year, instead did the team thing. Looking forward to 10+ years of him.

As long as he has a legitimate chance of taking it I have no problem with this.

I love how the coaches backed him to lead the ruck over Cox against quite easily the most dominant ruckman of the comp. It makes perfect sense what with his athleticism and all but it just goes to show how confident they were with him to do the job and he didn't let them down.

Probably his most complete game that I can remember imo. An absolute corker.:thumbsu:

in the derby i was mesmirised by how quick he was with hands and feet, at continually knocking the ball on,or just getting to the ball..apart from everything else he does as a ruckman..
anyone pick up on the postmatch interview with jacko..who finished saying something like 'good boy',or 'good on you boy'?..NN gave him a parting glance as if to say dont call me boy..or was i imagining that, anyway you certainly wouldnt want to say that in american sport...hmm jacko, not the brightest bulb around town.

The first part of the year he seemed a bit tentative but the last 2 he's been more aggressive and running harder. One suspects having one of his best mates in a coma has unlocked the beast in him.

Did anyone else see the interview he did about it and think this is having an effect on how he is playing atm?

You can see he has learned plenty already, especially how to beat Sandilands. NN jumps into Sandi at centre bounces with more confidence. In general play NN didn't try and go shoulder to shoulder with Sandilands but jumped and spoiled instead of marking.

Also it was funny listening to the commentators wondering why NN started each quarter and Cox sat on the bench and also why Lynch was being used against Kepler Bradely. They were going all through the conspiracy theories about an injury to Cox etc and then finally Jacovich quietly said;

"I think they might just be managing Coxy's workload fellas, he's fine!" and everyone shut up.:D

No doubt we wanted a fit and rested Cox to outrun Sandilands in the second half. In fact even though Sandilands was stong in the tap work our rucks ran and spread away from him at a great pace to gain their advantage.

Cox, NN and Lynch if they stay in current form will be very hard to beat over 4 quarters this season.:thumbsu:

Looks like Woosha maybe waking up and seeing that Nic Nat is a better center square ruckmen than cox. better leap, and just as good palm work. better pressure skills too. barring further injury the time is almost here where cox may have to move over a little for nic. Nic is having a bigger impact
