I'm just wondering if he'll get much game time this year?

cheers

Well before he was injured last season he was a regular starter, and with Morrison gone, I'd expect him to get more than a few matches in 2005. One thing I liked about him last season was that he kept a cool head and didn't panic when he got a hold of the ball.

If you're thinking about him for some kind of fantasy footy pick up Bluemike, he could be a real bargain get.

He never looked like getting dropped last season (11 straight games) before the freak injury (ie. the lad's not some hammy tearing medical room wallpaper expert) and he looks a good quality player.

Couple of games got into the high teens in possesions playing off a half back flank or out a pocket.

I'm not one to pump up my teams youngsters but this lad looks a goer to me.

in our best 25. is very left sided, he was shown up horribly in one of the derbies last year when bell covered his left side in the centre square and was tackled - holding the ball. look really bad.

injury free i think he will play around 15 games. competing with guys like hunter, green, waters and wirra.

I hope he has put on some weight over the off-season as he is very slight. My one query is like many left footers, he genuinely seems one sided. That said I have always been a fan of his dashing runs off the HBF, especially for Subiaco.

If we didn't have the likes of Judd/Butler/Waters running around, there would be a lot more excitement about Nicoski's athleticism.

He has genuine lightning pace and a booming kick, and last year developed decent poise under pressure.

He's putting pressure on Wirrpunda and Banfield for the small defender roles and by the time Cousins and Fletcher are getting long in the tooth I think he'll be a full time midfielder and a bloody good one at that.

He'll be a good player, and I'd be suprised if he doesn't quite a few games next year.

I particularly liked that goal he kicked from a set shot about 55 metres out last year.

Have you seen how quick he is ? Seriously, I reckon he could run with anyone in the league.

Yeah he also made a bad mistake in our Round 11 match against Collingwood on the Friday night last season, when he went short from a kick-in, made a meal of it and had to watch the ball sail over his head for a Magpies goal, at a very important stage of a close match.

Having said that though, who doesn't make mistakes once in a while? And like I said earlier, I really liked his cool head in the backline, he'll be a very handy player for the Eagles in years to come.

He is to good a player not to play most games, he is seriously quick some times he just gets ahead of himself, so play the lad and he will get better. :)

after only 11 games i think its a bit soon to judge his mistakes, looks ok to me.

its not so much that he made mistakes. thats acceptable but the mistakes he makes are because he has no right foot. he probly hasnt needed a right foot in lower leagues because of his pace but at afl were players know your dominent foot its alot harder to gloss over.

it is a problem, a bigger problem than nerves a player gets in his first season.

Fletcher has the 'left-footer' syndrome, but last year he showed that if he needs to he can use his right foot. A couple years back he would have been caught out. It takes time for players to gain the skill and experience to know how to use their wrong foot. Fletch will never be able to drill a perfect pass with his right, but if he needs to he knows how to swing that foot.
Give Nicoski a few years and he'll be alright too.

It may sound stupid, but I believe it's credit to Nicoski that there's only two glaring errors we can recall from his first season. Overall, this guy settled into AFL football really well and if you compare his first 11 matches with someone like Adam Cooney, he's streets ahead of that guy.

I disagree completely with this comment. Players should be able to use both sides of their bodies on all occassions. It's something that junior coaches need to address more readily through the system.

It isn't really that hard at all. Practice practice practice is the key and I'm sure more and more players will become proficient at the use of their non-preferred sides with the pace that the game is developing at.

That's a bit rich.

Green will struggle to get a game this year while the other 3 are automatic selections.

Nicoski is somewhere in the middle.

ok those are 3 automatic picks. there are 6 back positions, if 3 are taken by those guys and we still have to fill CHB and FB. that leaves one spot, guys like banfield, stenglein, green, nickoski, humm etc are competing for that one spot. with mark's restricted pre season i dont expect he would get a game R1.

My ideal back 6 for Round 1 at AAMI Stadium is:

B: Banfield - Glass - Chick
HB: Waters - Hunter - Wirrpunda

Stenglein, Braun and Lynch to play further up the ground for mine. Unless we have a shocking couple of weeks with injuries, Nicoski won't break into that side just yet, but I'm sure we'll see him in 2005 somewhere along the track.

Just the manner in which Green bowed out of the side last season won't help his cause this season, a rush of blood at the MCG which cost him 4 weeks on the sidelines wasn't the smartest thing to do, and he didn't play another senior match after that.

He should be a regular in our 22 provided he keeps impriving the way you'd expect him too.

Has all the talent, and pace to burn. Don't think he's too defensively minded to be playing in the back 50 but would love to see him on a wing, and possibly even some on-ball time.
