I think that's easy to say if you have no dependants, a job, and are using it to purchase tickets to gigs.

It's a pretty tough "choice" if you need $200 for food for your kids.

I'd question what you're spending your regular money on if you're relying on this to buy food.

I know what it's like. I grew up in a single parent home, with a mother who was supporting two people and paying a mortgage (at early '90s) interest rates on a low part-time wage. Food and bills come first for your family, everything else is an extra.

Keep paying $200 vig on 14 day $1k loans and you'll soon find out.

Kids, rent, food are expensive. That's before adding in drug/alcohol/cigarettes/gambling habits that'll cut into welfare payments fairly quickly.

Cut this shit out if you can't afford it. Simple.

It's the person's own choices that are the problem there, not "predatory" lenders.

Those views aren't mutually exclusive. The lenders are predatory, that's a fact.

Your views on people's responsibility and capacity to control their actions/circumstances are your own. As simplistic and misguided as they are.

That is all good in theory and I agree, if you're on a low income and have kids to support, put them first and don't smoke or do drugs etc, but..............that is all well and good until something unexpected comes up, whether it be sickness, a death in the family, a sick pet, car blows up and can't get to work etc People then make the decisions to take these types of loans becasue they have no choice but end up worse off in a situations that they can't get out of for many weeks / months.

In reality they should not be leant any money at all as they have no capacity to repay it, no regulated lender would get away with lending to them, even if they wanted to, but these guys can get away with it and make much more than a bank ever would.

What, so prioritising drugs/alcohol/gambling over food/bills/kids isn't a choice? Please...

If you can't afford it, take some personal responsibility and sacrifice "the good life". Nobody is making you do otherwise, especially not "predatory" lenders.

You were quick to recommend a credit card to me. Why not recommend it to these people for when "something unexpected comes up"?

Low income people still have the same avenues as everyone else does, and they've still got the same choices available to them in regards to these things too. Taking some personal responsibility and having some self-control to not get yourself in over your head is something most adults are capable of, and nobody is "preying" on them to prevent them from making rational decisions.

I just dislike the assumption and implication that there's somehow trickery and sleight of hand going on with this company, when in my direct experience as a customer, that couldn't be further from the truth. It's made totally clear what people are getting themselves into. Nobody is making them do it, so it's up to them to be adults and know what they can afford to pay back. There comes a point where adults need to face facts and stop blaming others for their poor choices, and take some responsibility for themselves.

NO Actually they don't have the same options. Try being on a benefit and getting a credit card approved, no bank will give you one. That in reality is the basis of the problem. If they had options from mainstream lenders, these lenders would not exist.
