odom rejects laker offer

Lamar Odom is leaning strongly toward accepting the Miami Heat’s contract offer and leaving the Los Angeles Lakers, multiple sources with knowledge of the talks said.

Odom has not reached a final decision, the sources said, but there is growing belief he will ultimately return to the Heat unless the Lakers improve their current offer.

This surprises me but it's now looking like Odom to the Heat is a genuine possibilty and even perhaps the most likely outcome??? Will no doubt hinder Beasley's development but Odom would be a great step forward, surely meaning Wade will re-sign. If we can somehow get Boozer aswell, I'd say our off-season has been just as effective as any other team's.

What do people think about a sign-and-trade with Odom for Haslem. The Lakers get something in return (a solid, but not spectacular back up 4), Odom gets more $ which he's clearly after and Miami get Odom, an upgrade at the 4, meaning Beasley can permanently move to the 3.

Not sure how this sits with the Lakers cap however as Haslem has a $7.1m expiring at the end of 09/10. Would also rule out a trade for Boozer you'd think.

Better for the Lakers than losing him for nothing. If Odom does go, who do they have as backup for Gasol and Bynum? Is it still Mihm and Powell? They will be screwed if Odom leaves for nothing.

Lamar Odom.

Reports out of the LA say he has agreed to sign a four year deal with the Lakers worth $33mil.

Was always going to happen - Odom was just using Miami as a bargaining chip.

Not much of a bargaining chip, he signed for less than the Lakers previous offer.

I've come around. The money wont be a factor as he'd bring alot of interest and $ into the club (tickets, jersey's etc). I obviously have doubts about his attitude, in particularly about playing back-up to Chalmers, but he's a talented player, and we need as many of them as possible on our roster.

He is a destructive force who will kill off any chance Miami have of competing with the big three teams in the East.

Unless we trade Beasley for Bosh/Amare, we can't compete this season period. We can't compete against Atlanta either. I'll wait and see about Detroit and Washington for post-season positions, but Phili are considerably better this season than last, as are Toronto. If we even make the play-offs, which isn't a certainty (not with the current roster anyway) I definitely can't see us getting out of the first round. I think a move for Boozer and Odom was our one chance of being competitive this season.

As for Iverson, our current PG rotation stands at Chalmers and Quinn (+ Wade). It's clear you need to be 3 deep at this position and if you give ma a choice of Tinsley, Jason Williams or Iverson to add the rotation, I'd chose Iverson.

It's going to be very difficult to win a Championship this season. The Cavs are either on the same level but probably better than last season, Boston should have a better season than last, who knows with Orlando and Atlanta may push for a number 3 seed. Throw in Dallas and the Spurs, and there's a tough bunch of teams to beat. Re-signing Odom was a must for the Lakers if they're any chance of defending their title.
