I know is only early but does it look like there will be any vacant coaching positions in the Talangatta League next year.

F**k Mitta, who wants to play for those inbreds, they should challenge themselves and turn around a club eg. Tallangatta, Wodonga Saints etc. Anyone can play for perennial premiership contender (look at all the club sl*ts who have played for Osborne of the years) and ride their coat tails to a flag, but the challenge of turning a club around and creating success is far more satisfying. But i forgot Mitta don't play their playersI know there is a group of 5 to 8 players from (or previously from) an O&M club who are looking at getting a crew together and playing Talangatta League. The word is that Mitta is their number 1 preference.
so they'll have to look elsewhere any wayMy thoughts exactly well saidF**k Mitta, who wants to play for those inbreds, they should challenge themselves and turn around a club eg. I can understand your point of view and a lot of bloke do head to clubs like Osbourne etc. just for the glory.
But, in saying that, if ever I decide to move home (Albury/Wodonga) Mitta would be where I'd go. I love the place, the mitta river, dartmouth dam plus their pub is great. Throw in a winning culture and locals who treat their players like royalty why wouldn't you wanna finish off your career there?
Summed it up to a T................. Absolutely spot on. Mitta is a great club to be a part of.I'm just a newbie to the club but they are great for me and my family. Can't fault the club, atmosphere, surroundings etc etc etc
What about Talangatta? Who is coaching them and are they doing a good job?
Darren Mathey is coaching Tallangatta and said in the paper today that "there has been a lot of improvement on last year". Unfortunately there are 2 stats that would dispute that comment. Ladder position and number of wins - both worse than last year. I'm not a Tallangatta person so can only go on the cold hard facts. Maybe someone in the know can fill us in, coz from the outside it would seem he's not going too well and the job may be up for grabs at season's end. Finding someone of quality to coach a cellar-dweller though, is not an easy task.
Dicko is a nice bloke and a fair player, but i have doubts whether he is coaching material. Anyone who knows him personally knows that he's closer to Zoolander than Ron Barassi when it comes to the finer points of coachingThere has also been strong links with Dickins to Thurgoona for a couple of years since his arrival at Chiltern that he would spend 2 years there and then return to Thurgoona (where he lives) to coach in 2008.That started 2 years ago and grew legs last year;however thurgoona's improvement this year would surely allow the current coach first opportunity to lead again next year wouldnt you think?Or would they look at a higher profile type coach? My belief would be to stick to what is obviously working for them.Maybe the Thurgoona of old may have opted for the former but they have got things right in the last couple of years so i'm sure they will make the right descision

If memory serves correctly Darren Mathey coached Tallangatta a few years back and never got them to a premiership. Why would a club like Tallangatta that has been starved of success for years now get him back for a second crack at it? You have to ask the question what the board is like at tallangatta and what shape the club is in? I'm not throwing stones but what are other people thoughts.![]()
he is a top bloke, and i agree with you TT. the only thing that may sway him to go there is if they install a Mens Salon near Kinross Oval.
not throwing stones at all GF, that statement was mentioned around the traps when he was appointed. Maybe this year was a chance for the Hoppers to get him back as a non-playing coach and save a bit of dough(non-playing coaches do get considerably less don't they?) my guess is that they will load up in the off season (if they haven't started the process by now, they should get cracking. coupled with the money they would have wasted on Kinross this year, they should have a bit.
Even if Dickins does want to coach, the way the Bulldogs are going I would be very surprised if they were looking for a new coach at the end of the year. Surely not even the Dogs would get rid of a bloke who is mid 20's & one of the better players in the comp. Anyone know more about Wightman ? I only know he came from Albury.

worst coach ever!!!!!!! lolEven if Dickins does want to coach, the way the Bulldogs are going I would be very surprised if they were looking for a new coach at the end of the year. Well MTAG Tallangatta havent wasted money on Kinross when he only played 4 games before his knee injury & he gets considerbly less than most overpaid underperfomers in the league. Mathey got the hoppers to a GF in 2002 with a team that wasnt as good as the Barny's & Mitta's but he brought them together to play as a team. Yes they should be loading up & going now & hopefully they are for sake of the comp as a team with a town of a 1000 odd people behind it should be doing much better, but has someone has said, when the juniors go to Bullioh for easy back yard footy & not prepared to try a higher comp, it has hurt the hoppers big time.
Tell us what you really think Gurnard!
I do agree though.
The hard thing is that good coaches dont just grow on trees. Any suggestions?
I'd like to throw Brent Lillis in the mix, still a good player and has very good recruiting power. Any thoughts?
