Anyone heard anything about him signing a contract with Port? Read that it is a done deal on another site.

you're a fan of SA footy ?

Re: Laidley match day coach

Yes it is a brilliant site but be careful about mentioning that site around here. You will get censored.

Chief, the most stable genius, hates competition.
They're completely different markets.

That Cheephy certainly is a strange one sometimes.

Re: Laidley match day coach

BigFooty has boards for regional leagues, doesn't it?
BigFooty has a board for just about everything. Doesn't mean they're in the same market. It's like saying you can't reference Facebook or MySpace because there is a social board.

Sure, I can have a chat with friends on BigFooty, but I'm not going to. Same goes with regional/amatuer Football. Sure, I could discuss the approaching Division 6 final between Brahma Lodge and Hectorville in the regional football board, but I'm not going to.

To assume that a mere reference to SA Footy is somehow going to damage or stifle BF's traffic is quite honestly preposterous.

Back when I started here, there was a thriving discussion community around SANFL footy. It was pretty much this traffic - and requests from the SANFL followers - that saw the then composite regional board split into state league boards as they are now.

It would be fair to say SA Footy mostly killed off the SANFL discussion here. There's a little bit still, but not much. So yeah, I can see why Chief wouldn't be thrilled.

Anyway, back on topic, good to hear there's some news on movement on the assistant coaching front. Wait to hear an announcement from the club now on Laidley's role.

Re: Laidley match day coach

Sorry to be pedantic but that was actually footysa. :p

When that site died off SA Footy kicked off so use SANFL diehards weren't left with nothing.

Well the censored site did say that the announcement should be later today or tomorrow morning. No rush I guess.

I thought SA Footy was more popular than footysa (didn't they run in parallel for a little while?), but yeah, footysa probably did the initial damage.

Anyway, enough of that, I'm running this thread terribly OT in two directions now!

I would argue that it was the functionality and demographic of the relevant websites compared to BigFooty that caused that shift, rather than any casual referrals in peoples posts.

Its waaay OT but my initial point was that people aren't going to leave BigFooty because of people mentioning other sites here. It's going to happen (as it has) regardless. If anything the paranoia and somewhat draconian measures being discussed would probably do the opposite of what they were implemented for ;)

Yeah, I really should have responded to your comment that they were completely different markets, rather than the impact of casual reference.

My comment was more directed at it being understandable if your lose a chunk of your traffic to another site, and therefore not wanting to give it free hits. But I'm not sure how draconian this site is about it, Chief has indicated he is ok about referring to TPFP. I've never had any direction on other sites.

They ran parallel for a short period of time, but in the last weeks of FootySA it actually turned into a bit of a joke. The new site well and truly took over and FootySA ultimately turned into a wikipedia referencing site.

I've been a member of SA Footy since the early days, its a very good site because it caters for the SA footy fan. I still use Big Footy too obviously.
