What do we feel our best game plan to be?

Easy enough question, but setting out a team that fits into the criteria becomes somewhat more difficult.
We have our "best 22" listed over and over again, yet we hardly ever express as to the reasoning behind it other than to pigeon hole players into positions as to where they have previously performed well in.
I am certainly not saying I know better than our MC, but going forward what game are our current personnel best served to play?
Recent premiership clubs have had distinctive "Game Plans"
Where are we best served developing and nurturing our style to?

We have used many players this year already and that alone tells us we are still experimenting.
That is to be expected with such a young group and so many players putting their hand up for selection.
Ratten will settle on a style that will sync up players to a style.

What do we think that style will be?

What do we think that style will be?

Clean crisp possesion, while utilising the Corridor as much as possible to get the ball down quickly to Fev and Waite one out to hopefully expose them down back and we MUST keep the crowd out of it early by getting an early lead. If we are giving up goals early i can see Waite going down back to fill up the holes and if this happens it will be an early win for Neil Craig in the coaching stakes.

Fev as a decoy while Kreuzer and Waite are our main targets with runners like Robbo, Betts and Yarran (and a midfielder at times) lurking there aswell. If they aren't crowding Fev then we can afford to go fev concious.

Defenders with pace and smarts like, Austin, Jamison, Joseph, Armfield and Scotland are important.

More players to rotate through the middle would be good so we can throw Judd, Stevens, Murphy or Gibbs forward would be a nice luxary. That is why we need walker and Grigg back and fit.

Our corridore must be our first option to move the ball unlike collingwood where their first option is the boundary.

We need Warnock back but I think Hampson is ready to take more of the rucking role.

i would of thought you would need a plan b and c.....

im thinking plan b = gibbs - fevola - bounce. plan c = murphy - fevola - bounce.

probably not fair to leave kreuzer out of the equation either, although i guess judds leap is apparently back so it really could be judd takes it out of the ruck to fevola and repeat :)

our main thing will be to move the ball forward as soon as we can get a turn over. This might be one of the few moments when we will have space and a one on one against the flooders. We must look to go forward and take risks when we get the ball off them.

Defensive
A cohesive back six that crowd the backline and strangle the opposition for space when in the back 50.

The mid-field to crowd space and upply pressure on the defensive side of centre to the back 50 area, play the space and always pressure the ball carrier.

The forward line will apply forward line defensive pressure when the opposition is trying to clear the ball, but will follow this up to centre field and ensure the ball carrier is always under pressure.

This defensive plan in theory would rely on all players comitting to the game plane. If success the plan would be to create a defensive "sandwich" effect in the centre of the field, which would result in a rushed kick forward (bomb) or result in a direct turnover in between centre and the defensive 50.

Attack:
(Rebound)
CHF or HFF would break towards our defensive 50 on leads and would provide a target for our rebound defenders. At the same time the mid's that were in between centre & defensive 50 would overlap and run forward of the centre and create space for the HFF/CHF to lead to....
HFF/CHF would mark the ball and then spot up the overlap mids who would now be forward of the centre....HFF/CHF would then run forward from defensive centre into F50 as a later option if required.

At the start of the rebound/turnover the FF/FP and remaining HF line would run forward and drag their opponents with them creating space for the overlaping mids to run into......FF would run to a pocket or the square with a FP at his side both dragging their opponents creating space behind them and doubling back on the lead into space for the overlaping mids to honour with a direct pass. The remaining forwards would be on the 50m line (approx) making sure space was available for the deep forward to lead into and they were an option for the rebounding CHF/HFF defensive side of the centre. When the lead is honoured the remaing forwards would run forward to pick up any spilled marks, but to also provide immediate defensive forward line pressure on the opposing teams defense and ultimately lock the ball in our F50.

At the point when the mid's honour the lead or forward play they will move forward and form a zone on the defensive side of our F50, on the back of this the whole defensive 6 would move up and zone in the space on the centre and defensive centre to the defensive 50.

Ruck:
(Defensive)
Would fill space in the defensive are form the centre piece of the zone....we are blessed with very athletic rucks who have the ability to offer a sound defensive back up.

(Rebound)
Would run to HBF or defensive side of wing and be a clearing option in partnership with the CHF/HFF's for the rebounding defenders.

(Attack)
Would zone off on the defensive side of the F50 to be a spoiling/defensive marking option for the opposing teams rebounding defenders. He would also run deep as an option for long shots on goal or would also run deep if the other team zones/floods our F50.

Summary:
This is just a little theory and in no way am I an expert........we need to make sure we boths ways with equal endeavour, comittment and strategy. I have not gone into F50 plays because I was more trying to demostrate an overall game plan rather specific areas..........the f50 plays and match ups I feel will change according to the opposition as will the postion of what players are playing where during any point of a game. The main thing is that everyone would have a role to play in an overall strategy.
