The Swans are typically known as a team of good players, without having the stars (which you'd expect, as we have no top 3 picks). However on closer examination we actually had several dominant achievers throughout our midfield:
Josh Kennedy - #1 for clearances, #1 for contested possessions
Ryan O'Keefe - #2 for tackles
Lewis Jetta - #1 for goals as a midfielder (ahead of him are 10 key forwards, Milne and Betts)
Kieren Jack - #1 for goal assists, #2 for inside 50s
The guy I expect to step up considerably in 2013 and add to this group is Dan Hannebery. He had an average year but stepped up his production considerably through the finals series and looked like he had improved his kicking. The club will also need improvement from Luke Parker, with Bolton likely to reduce his midfield time.
One of the more interesting stats is that we had a much more running style this year, with Adam Goodes our leading player in marks per game at a lowly 65th in the competition. There is probably still a belief from opposition supporters that the Swans chip it around, but the stats definitely don't back this up. Adam Goodes was also our leading mark inside 50, with Sam Reid well behind him.
