You don't get it.

When you're down the bottom you're either rebuilding, or biding time until you come good. This year we have a list good enough to pinch a flag. As of 2 weeks ago it became apparent that the dream is over.

That bites way more than being 15th and getting draft picks to build a strong team.

Making the top 5 hurts more than the bottom 8 does it? Excuse me while I go and ask Richmond fans.

Sure we wont be going into many finals matches as favourite but while we are there we have a bit of a chance.

Not saying we'll go deep into September, but getting a win in the finals is an amazing feeling.
 
If Collingwood lose tonight then wqe are still a ******* chance of top 4 - as ridiculous as that sounds... hahaha RIDICULOUS!!! Ah, so this was behind your little outburst in the other thread. You total blouse.

Richmond? Why must you change the goalposts? They've played in 2 finals series in 30 years. Not sure where I said this is less upsetting than our year. mentioning this just makes you look like a knob.

This is pleb mentality. This should hurt way more than 2010. In 2010 we were rebuilding. Intelligent and calm people accept this as a necessary part of football and don't lose their shit because they aren't winning every week. The ones that hurt are the ones that get away when you are in a scoring position.

Football is about winning flags. I'm not sure you're quite grasping that?

I used Richmond as an example of why sometimes making the top 5 isn't that horrible. Everything that can go wrong has this year and we are still in the hunt for September.

You said we had a team that could pinch the flag, that means we are ahead of the teams who are 15th and building a good team as we can still play finals.

exactly. celebrating mediocrity is not the west coast way. every year players want to be at that one day in september. anyone who doesnt think like that shouldnt be playing afl. sure we had injuries and suspension but our game plans and depth is starting to look overrated.

Let me spell this shit out for you:

Let's use North or Brisbane. They probably won't make the 8, or North might slip in. Right now they should be quite happy because they would be optimistic they are climbing the ladder and building something good. I remember this feeling clearly in 2003, 2004, and 2011. Let's take Melbourne and Bulldogs. Both shit. But surely both realise that footy is somewhat cyclical and at times you end up down the bottom and rebuilding. It's just the nature of the beast. They should be comfortable and resigned to the fact they will spend a few year rebuilding. No big deal.

Then look at the Eagles. Had a real chance at a flag and we have all come to the realisation over the last 3 weeks that our season is over. If you don't think that hurts more than the other scenarios then I'm confused at how you perceive football. I wonder if you're one of these nuffies who still think footy is a week to week proposition?

Yep, you're one of them. Making the 8 isn't really where it's at. So many people think making the 8 is some sort of validation of success. It's not. That's pleb thinking. Making the 8 is either about making top 4 and having a tilt at the flag, or getting finals experience. I don't see any value teams like Geelong, Carlton, and St Kilda have by making the 8. North, Richmond and the other teams in the 8, yes.

you're better off making a peace and if a miracle happens and we get our shit together jumping on the bandwagon.

I was pissed 3 weeks ago when we lost because I felt that was our season gone. Much calmer today despite the loss. I thought we'd win today but that performance didn't surprise me a whole lot.

While we are in the 8 (most likely top 6 or 5) we can have a tilt at the flag.

We have a month to get things sorted before potentially a few finals. By the end of the season the only best 22 player that will be missing is Lecca, so if we are not good enough then we have overrated our list.
