The game must be put into perspective.
Everyone and there dog bagging Lynch yet he kicked 3 goals while regularly getting mugged by a pack of Carlton players.

Everyone continually saying we have no key forwards yet 7 goals where kicked by Lynch, Gardiner and Hansen while many Carlton players where in the forward 50, and we still have McDougall to come back.

I know the backline was beaten but Carlton forwards had plenty of room to move into which would of exposed ANY backline.

Seaby is a gazillion times more talented then French so I put it down to fatigue the fact he got beaten.

Make no mistake this team can play, they didn't show it tonight but let's wait for the REAL stuff, and it must be remembered Woosha has always been focusing on Round 1.

Lynch's first goal was a gift. The thing that was disappointing was that he dropped lots of marks he should have taken. He was out-muscled by Livingston in the goal-square.

I don't know why Seaby sucked so badly, I have to put it down to a limited preseason. I don't rate French at all.

I think Seaby lost a bit of confidence in the first half after a few puzzling free kick decisions went against him in the ruck

Was much better in the second half

What was more puzzling was our midfielders werent pushing forward more to help talls and not let Carlton sweep the ball away out of defense

I agree. I think a lot of people are desperate to find a way to talk the Eagles down, and a lot of WC supporters have massive expectations.

We lost because we didn't take our opportunities in the 2nd half and Carlton had a forward line that completely dominated our defenders.

Not the end of the world. When our midfield clicked into gear we played some good football and Gardiner and Hansen both showed enough up forward.

Bring on Round 1.

I put it down to not taking our chances early & a bad night out for our defense. One good sustained quarter & we could have taken it from 'em.

Might sound arrogant, but it's probably the truth!

Hmmm is just a hunch... but let me think..... the fact Seaby is only 20 years old and only played about 15 AFL games and is singelhandidly having to lead the ruck in a Grand Final with Jaymie Grayham as his backup have anything to do with it?

Regardless of how crap Barnaby French is... and he is crap.. French is a 29 year old with a mature body. Seaby was never going to be able to handle him on his own without Cox there to help him. You saw how well Seaby did when he was up against someone the same age as him.. he dominated.

People seem to forget how young the majority of our side is... and seem to expect them to just dominate the opposition. It's not going to happen. We are 2-3 years away from becoming a dominant team or even a team capable of winning a flag.

IMO Woosha was outcoached by Pagan. It was until the last quater that he made changes to the forward line which is when we hit the lead. Also the players didnt seems to change they way they were playing instead they were banging it forward when Carlton had set a wall up.

In regards to the forward line when you add McDougal and Matera back in the side, you will be adding atleast 4 more goals per game (which would be the bare minimum). If you take this into account the Eagles would have won!!

I think Lynch is better suited to CHB and would especially play him on the bigger CHFs and when he come up against a quicker CHF I would pinch hit him down in the forward line - as they did last year.

Another option I beleive would be to keep Lynch at FF and try McDougal at CHB. I think he would have the size, smarts and strength to go with most CHBs.

As for Seaby IMO he will be the best ruckman in the competiton in 2-3 years.

No need for overreaction just yet I thinks
