Is it me or does this artlical make you want to go gamble more than it does to discourage. From the sounds of it Ox did more living over that spring carnival than most people do in there life time. He just went to the races and had one of the best possible days any person could of ever ask for, and i'm sure he left out all the tail we would of enjoyed as well.

great read...can't believe he kept going after that day...im also suprised his team mates didnt tell him to stop or ease up at all lol

Adding these letters in order to post the opening quote

Every cent I earned was being lost on the punt and I was becoming involved with shadier and shadier characters.

There's a heap of people round here that know my gambling habits and poke fun at the fact I'm in a rough patch/jinx everything I bet on.

As a student having lost >$3500 in 3-4 years, I must admit it is not something I would recommend to people. Once you start losing you just get greedier and greedier, making more unrealistic bets in the hope that you get back in positive territory in one big hit. Instead of betting on something likely with a $20-50 single bet, I'd put $5 - 10 stupid multi bets that rarely come in. Probably been 3-4 months since my last multi bet win. The little losses build up and you just don't realise how bad the situation gets.

Back when I got youth allowance, I used to go to the casino weekly, took up poker, bet at TAB on horses/trots/dogs, bet on AFL/soccer (EPL & A-League), had an online betting account, and realised stuff was getting serious when you're betting on shit you have absolutely no idea about, losing $100+ on a weekly basis at the cas and continually making failing $10 multi bets. You'd look at your payslip, and then your bank account and think "F*** where has all that gone!?"

I've certainly eased up over the last few months, and it's certainly a good feeling to save at least couple hundred every week, especially when I haven't even got myself a good job yet. I'm by no means poor, although many people would make me out to be, but reading stories like this, it's good to know that my level of self control is stronger than others.

Right now I'd love to look into getting a house (so I can go out without parents wondering what time I'll be home, so I can have people over whenever I want etc), but it's not feasible when you're gambling, especially with the attitude I have towards it. I'm just happy that I've realised this now, while I still have plenty of money to my name, before I moved up in the ranks and started doing the things Ox did.

The bloke has become just another PC suckhole clawing away at the sports media teat.

Luke Darcy "lite".

I'm addicted to living responsibly.

I tried to gamble last week but couldn't bring myself to lay the money down, as Marge Simpson said those risky activities "sound kind of risky".

I'd like to drink but I'm afraid of what I might become, and where I might end up.

Where can I find help to break from this eternal boring as batshit hell?
